Stargazing at the Dark Sky Park

Calling all star gazers! Enjoy the dark sky during the new moon. Bring binoculars, telescopes or use one of ours. Blankets or a chair are suggested, as there is limited seating. To protect night vision, please use a flashlight or head lamp with a red filter. This informal gathering is open to all, and will be held if skies are clear. We will meet by the shelter building and beach area, about 600 feet down the path from parking lot 3. Program will be either Sept 9 or 10, depending on viewing conditions. In event of rain or poor viewing conditions, program will be cancelled. Call the park for information.

Newport SP information

Newport State Park, northeast of Ellison Bay, is Wisconsin's only formally-designated wilderness park. With 2,373 acres and 11 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, the park offers quiet alternatives to bustling Door County. Explore 30 miles of hiking trails with hike-in campsites. There are evergreen and hardwood forests, wetlands and upland meadows.

Monday Night Hike

Join us on Monday evenings at 5 p.m. this fall for a series of 2-3 mile exercise hikes. We will meet at the Scuppernong Hiking Trails (Hwy ZZ, east of Hwy 67) for the September hikes and at the Nordic Hiking Trails (Hwy H, 4 miles south of Palmyra) for the October hikes. Each week we will take a new route and improve our hiking endurance.

September 10 - Scuppernong Hiking Trails - We will hike the RED loop for a 2.3-mile hilly hike. This loop is completely shady but has hills throughout.

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.
