Duck Banding Program

Crex Meadows information

Crex Meadows Wildlife Area is a 30,000 acre property of wetlands, brush prairies, and forests scattered across a gently rolling landscape. It is located in western Burnett County. Find it from Highway 70 in Grantsburg. Directional signs will guide you through Grantsburg to the Crex Meadows Wildlife Education and Visitor Center, which is located on County Road D.

Community Campfire

Bring a chair or blanket and join us for a community campfire down by the bay! Our Park Naturalist will supply the stories, songs, and fire; you supply the s'mores! Come on down for the full hour or stop on by for this all ages friendly event! Meet at the shoreline area across from the campground shelter and playground. In the event of rain we will move into the campground shelter.

Potawatomi SP information

Potawatomi State Park on the shore of Sturgeon Bay in southern Door County, has 1,200 acres of gently rolling upland terrain bordered by steep slopes and rugged limestone cliffs. The park is named in honor of the tribe that inhabited Green Bay's shores and islands when Europeans first settled the area. The tribe called themselves Bo-De-Wad-Me which means "keeper of the fire." Eventually the spelling and pronunciation were changed to Potawatomi.

Devil's Lake SP information

Founded in 1911, Devil's Lake is the third oldest state park in Wisconsin, the largest, and the most visited. Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Enjoy lakeshore picnic areas, sandy swimming beaches, 29 miles of hiking trails, or ease into the backcountry solitude. Devil's Lake is a beautiful year-round park with an intriguing natural history along the 1,000-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

Universe in the Park is a popular outreach program of the UW-Madison Astronomy Department and is predicated on a very simple idea: the best environment in which to introduce the general public to astronomy is outside under dark skies. The UitP session begins with a 20-30 minute talk and slide presentation covering a broad view of astronomy and recent astronomical news. Following the presentation, a telescope is set up to view whatever astronomical objects are available. Question and answer period follows around the telescope.

Harrington Beach SP information

Harrington Beach State Park has more than a mile of beach along Lake Michigan. This 715-acre park also features a white cedar and hardwood swamp, old field grasslands with restored wetland ponds and a scenic limestone quarry lake. Camp, sunbathe, picnic, hike, bird watch, fish or practice astronomy. An observatory is open to the public for monthly viewings.

Over 20 miles of scenic hiking, off-road biking, and cross-country ski trails, as well as a family campground, access to the Military Ridge State Trail with bike-in campsites, and a rustic cabin for people with disabilities make Blue Mound a popular destination year-round.

Women's Walking and Wellness Program

Spend time in nature, get healthy, and train to walk the Empowered Women's Half-Marathon or 5k (Saturday, September 28) or a Willow River Trail Run--a 6.6k, 10.6k, or half-marathon-(Saturday, October 12). Weekly walking groups begin Saturday, June 8 at 8:30 a.m. at Willow River State Park. In addition to weekly walking groups, monthly programs--including yoga, healthy eating and meal planning, local foods, and other wellness programs--will be offered at the nature center.

This program is funded by an Allina Neighborhood Health Connection Grant to Gateway Arts and Wellness and is available to up to 10 community members, free of charge. Participants must commit to participate in at least 10 of the 20 sessions, which run Saturdays June 8 - October 19, 2019. Most sessions run from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Willow River SP information

With nearly 3,000 acres of prairie, forests, and panoramic river scenery, Willow River State Park offers year-round recreation opportunities in western Wisconsin. The park is about five miles northeast of Hudson, and has a campground, a boat launch and a 400-foot beach and picnic area centered on 172-acre Little Falls Lake.

Pedaling to Nichols Mound

Perrot SP information

Perrot State Park, where the Trempealeau River meets the Mississippi River, offers breathtaking views from 500-foot bluffs. The river bank and surrounding wetlands provide wonderful habitat for the many migratory birds that travel through this area twice a year. Unique to southwestern Wisconsin and Perrot are the goat prairies perched high on the bluffs.

GO! Discover Drop-Ins: Prairies & Pollinators!

Havenwoods State Forest is Wisconsin's only urban state forest, featuring 237 acres of grasslands, woods and wetlands in the city of Milwaukee. Hike, run, bike and watch wildlife on over six miles of trails. Explore one of the four ponds, stroll over the 120-foot bridge or find a bench to sit and relax outdoors.

Buckhorn SP information

Buckhorn State Park is a paradise for water enthusiasts, hunters, hikers, campers and nature lovers. Roche-A-Cri SP information

Roche-A-Cri State Park, established in 1948, protects a 300-foot-high rock outcropping and Native American petroglyphs and pictographs. The name "Roche-A-Cri" comes from French words meaning "crevice in the rock." The park has 41 rustic campsites and five miles of hiking trails within a forest of large oaks and pines. Carter Creek in the park offers fishing opportunities.

Extreme Saturday Morning

Calling all youth to come explore the extremes of nature by participating in the Wisconsin Explorers program! The program involves completing a required number of activities in one of three age appropriate books (ages 3-5; ages 6-8; and ages 9+) to earn a very cool patch. Get help from a naturalist who will work with youth on activities from one of the first four topic areas of the books. Locations: Picnic Shelters at Mauthe Lake Recreation Area (located off County Road GGG south of County Road SS near New Prospect) and Long Lake Recreation Area (located off Division Road north of County Road F near Dundee)

Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.
