"The Trails of Newport" Challenge Hike

Newport State Park, northeast of Ellison Bay, is Wisconsin's only formally-designated wilderness park. With 2,373 acres and 11 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, the park offers quiet alternatives to bustling Door County. Explore 30 miles of hiking trails with hike-in campsites. There are evergreen and hardwood forests, wetlands and upland meadows.

Founded in 1911, Devil's Lake is the third oldest state park in Wisconsin, the largest, and the most visited. Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Enjoy lakeshore picnic areas, sandy swimming beaches, 29 miles of hiking trails, or ease into the backcountry solitude. Buckhorn State Park is a paradise for water enthusiasts, hunters, hikers, campers and nature lovers. The park and two adjacent state wildlife areas cover more than 8,000-acres on a peninsula in the Castle Rock Flowage of the Wisconsin River and along the connecting Yellow River. Family and group campsites, unique cart-in camping, a cabin for people with disabilities, canoe trail and an accessible fishing pier, are all available at Buckhorn State Park.

Nature Storytime

Naturalist Colleen Tolliver will share a story and activity with pre-schoolers and their parents. A short activity following the story will reinforce the story's nature-related theme. Nature Storytime will generally last between 30-60 minutes, depending on the participants. Time will be spent outdoors, weather permitting, so parents should dress their children accordingly. Meet at the Beach House (in case of rain, we'll meet at the Ice Age Center).

July 6: Nature Recycles - "Life of a Log"

The Stanton W. Mead Education and Visitor Center is a 6,208 square foot education and administration facility designed as an example of sustainable and environmentally-responsible construction.
