French Voyageur Encampment

An entire weekend filled with fun and events led by Dirty Kettle! This event runs July 26-28. Try your hand at numerous daily activities including tomahawk throwing, canoe rides, tipi tours, drum circles and more! An engaging educational experience suited for all ages. The event is free and open to the public. A vehicle admission sticker is required.

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

Guided Kayak Tour

Location: Devil's Lake SP

Go on a kayak adventure at Devil's Lake! Guides will take you on a 2-hour tour of the lake exploring the geology, history and lake's wildlife. Space is limited, so you'll need to preregister. If you need to rent a kayak, please let us know when you register. The rental fee is $25 for a single kayak and $45 for a double. To register, please contact the Nature Center at (608) 356-8301 ext. 140. This program is best for adults and children 10 and older. Meet at the Chateau (North Shore Concessions).

Harvesting Wild Rice in Wisconsin

Starsplitters Astronomy Program: Star Party

Bring a chair or blanket. Bring binoculars. Bring telescopes. We have cement pads for scopes (some have electricity). We will try to help you with your equipment if you have questions. Those with telescopes or equipment can drive down to the building for loading and unloading. If you are from the area and would like to become a member, this is a great time to come! Everyone is welcome. Donations are appreciated.

Stargazing at the Dark Sky Park

Join us at Wisconsin's only designated dark sky park for a night of star gazing. There will be a telescope and other equipment set up with some of Door County's best amateur astronomers on hand to point out some highlights of the night sky. All are welcome to bring their own telescopes, binoculars, chairs and blankets. Flashlights or headlamps with red lens cover is recommended. It is always a good idea to come during day time hours to familiarize yourself with the area first. Rain date: July 28. Park at Lot 3 and follow the marked path.

Newport State Park, northeast of Ellison Bay, is Wisconsin's only formally-designated wilderness park. With 2,373 acres and 11 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, the park offers quiet alternatives to bustling Door County. Explore 30 miles of hiking trails with hike-in campsites. Morning Hike

Enjoy a guided morning hike with park naturalist Reed Cockrell. Meet at the north end of the pool parking lot by the Friends Shelter.

Perched atop the highest point in southern Wisconsin, Blue Mound State Park offers spectacular views and unique geological features. A swimming pool is available in during summer. Over 20 miles of scenic hiking, off-road biking, and cross-country ski trails, as well as a family campground, access to the Military Ridge State Trail with bike-in campsites, and a rustic cabin for people with disabilities make Blue Mound a popular destination year-round.

Hike to the Top of Wisconsin's Tallest Sand Dune

Join the park naturalist on this 1.5 mile one way hike to Old Baldy, the tallest sand dune in Wisconsin. We'll talk about dunes, shipwrecks, native history, and plants as we make our way there. Meet at the Amphitheater outside the Nature Center rain or shine! Sturdy shoes and a water bottle are recommended.

Whitefish Dunes SP information

Whitefish Dunes State Park protects the fragile dune environment on the eastern Door County Peninsula. Stroll along Lake Michigan, watch waterfowl at Clark Lake, use the boardwalk to discover the wetlands or relax on one of the many trails throughout the forested sand dunes and beech forest. The park's nature center features year-round programs, exhibits and displays on ecology, geology and human history. Whitefish Dunes is a day-use park, there is no camping.

Copper Falls SP information

Ancient lava flows, deep gorges, and spectacular waterfalls make Copper Falls one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks. Log buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s add to the park's charm. There is plenty to do; hiking, bicycling, picnicking, fishing and swimming. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through Copper Falls State Park.

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.
