French Voyageur Encampment

An entire weekend filled with fun and events led by Dirty Kettle! This event runs July 26-28. Try your hand at numerous daily activities including tomahawk throwing, canoe rides, tipi tours, drum circles and more! An engaging educational experience suited for all ages. The event is free and open to the public. A vehicle admission sticker is required.

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

Tree ID

Drop on by the Amphitheater area outside of the Nature Center to learn how to identify some of the trees in our park as well as some fun facts about what trees give us. In the event of rain this program will take place inside the Nature Center.

Whitefish Dunes SP information

Whitefish Dunes State Park protects the fragile dune environment on the eastern Door County Peninsula. Stroll along Lake Michigan, watch waterfowl at Clark Lake, use the boardwalk to discover the wetlands or relax on one of the many trails throughout the forested sand dunes and beech forest. The park's nature center features year-round programs, exhibits and displays on ecology, geology and human history. Whitefish Dunes is a day-use park, there is no camping.

Copper Falls SP information

Ancient lava flows, deep gorges, and spectacular waterfalls make Copper Falls one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks. Log buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s add to the park's charm. There is plenty to do; hiking, bicycling, picnicking, fishing and swimming. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through Copper Falls State Park.

Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Devil's Lake is a beautiful year-round park with an intriguing natural history along the 1,000-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

Hike the Black Loop

Come explore 2.5 miles of the Black Trail on this guided morning hike. We'll cover a number of topics including invasive species, wildflowers, tree identification, and native history. We'll also have a good chance of seeing wildlife since these are some of the least hiked trails of the park! Meet at the Amphitheater outside the Nature Center. A water bottle and closed toe shoes are recommended.

Paradise Springs Hike

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Playing with Shakespeare: Children's Workshop

The Summit Players are a traveling theatre company who present short, fun, accessible and free Shakespeare workshops and performances to audiences around the state. This year, join the Players as they perform a mini-version of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. The production is 'Shakespeare out of a trunk,' with minimal set, costumes and props and a focus on actors, as per the style of Shakespeare's time. Prior to the performance, company members will lead a 45-minute children's workshop. 5:30 p.m. workshop; 7 p.m. performance.

Horicon Marsh has been formally recognized as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention of the United Nations. This renowned marsh is now home to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The Wildlife Education Program has been conducted at the marsh since the mid-1980s. This program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and applied management.

The Native Beat Goes On

Elliott Funmaker, Sr. (Ho-Chunk) is a veteran performer and cultural arts presenter. He and his group will provide a family-friendly cultural demonstration of themusic and dance of Ho-Chunk Nation. The group will share their rich heritage with details about the regalia that they wear, as well as the significant meaning of the tribe's history through songs and dances. Elliott with also explain the symbolism of objects and actions, such the drum itself and the significance of the beat and rhythm. Join us for this authentic presentation about the Native culture of the original inhabitants of the area surrounding Devil's Lake. This is a great program for all ages. The event is happening near the North Shore Boat Launch. Sponsored by the Little Eagle Arts Foundation.

The night sky reveals an amazing array of stars and planets. Join the UW-Madison Astronomy Department for a presentation about astronomy and recent astronomical news. Afterwards, the telescope will be set up (weather permitting) to view the night sky - question and answer period follows. Meet at the pavilion east of the main parking lot. Women's Walking and Wellness Program

Spend time in nature, get healthy, and train to walk the Empowered Women's Half-Marathon or 5k (Saturday, September 28) or a Willow River Trail Run--a 6.6k, 10.6k, or half-marathon-(Saturday, October 12). Weekly walking groups begin Saturday, June 8 at 8:30 a.m. at Willow River State Park. In addition to weekly walking groups, monthly programs--including yoga, healthy eating and meal planning, local foods, and other wellness programs--will be offered at the nature center.

This program is funded by an Allina Neighborhood Health Connection Grant to Gateway Arts and Wellness and is available to up to 10 community members, free of charge. Participants must commit to participate in at least 10 of the 20 sessions, which run Saturdays June 8 - October 19, 2019. Most sessions run from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Willow River SP information

With nearly 3,000 acres of prairie, forests, and panoramic river scenery, Willow River State Park offers year-round recreation opportunities in western Wisconsin. The park is about five miles northeast of Hudson, and has a campground, a boat launch and a 400-foot beach and picnic area centered on 172-acre Little Falls Lake.

Nature Photo Scavenger Hunt
