Crex Camp for Kids

Location: Crex Meadows

This wildlife day camp for kids ages 8 to 12 will bring new adventures each day as children explore the wetlands, woods, and prairies of Crex. We recommend bringing mosquito and tick repellant, close-toed shoes, a water bottle and a rain jacket. Pre-registration is required.

Crex Meadows information

Crex Meadows Wildlife Area is a 30,000 acre property of wetlands, brush prairies, and forests scattered across a gently rolling landscape. It is located in western Burnett County. Find it from Highway 70 in Grantsburg. Directional signs will guide you through Grantsburg to the Crex Meadows Wildlife Education and Visitor Center, which is located on County Road D.

Little Naturalist Storytime: Dragonflies

Dart about the Mead and check out Dragonfly Pond for its namesake. The odonatan, dragonflies, are members of that group and we hope to spot a few of the 110 species native to Wisconsin.

Mead Wildlife Area Center information

The Stanton W. Mead Education and Visitor Center is a 6,208 square foot education and administration facility designed as an example of sustainable and environmentally-responsible construction. One of the goals of the Mead Wildlife Area is to provide wildlife and environmental programs to the citizens of Wisconsin. These programs help to foster a sense of environmental stewardship, that through education we can achieve a better understanding of the values and issues of our wildlife and natural resources.

Potawatomi SP information

Potawatomi State Park on the shore of Sturgeon Bay in southern Door County, has 1,200 acres of gently rolling upland terrain bordered by steep slopes and rugged limestone cliffs. The park is named in honor of the tribe that inhabited Green Bay's shores and islands when Europeans first settled the area. The tribe called themselves Bo-De-Wad-Me which means "keeper of the fire." Eventually the spelling and pronunciation were changed to Potawatomi.

Buckhorn SP information

Buckhorn State Park is a paradise for water enthusiasts, hunters, hikers, campers and nature lovers. The park and two adjacent state wildlife areas cover more than 8,000-acres on a peninsula in the Castle Rock Flowage of the Wisconsin River and along the connecting Yellow River. Family and group campsites, unique cart-in camping, a cabin for people with disabilities, canoe trail and an accessible fishing pier, are all available at Buckhorn State Park.

Music in the Park: Sheboygan Ukulele Club with Lil' Rev

Come to Kohler-Andrae for a fun-filled evening of song and story as Lil' Rev and the Sheboygan Ukulele Club take the stage. Lil' Rev is an award-winning folk singer, story teller and multi-instrumentalist and the Sheboygan Ukulele Club has been gaining attention with an exciting repertoire of rock n roll, folk, country, blues and island themed songs. Expect to sing, clap and dance along to their music during their first appearance at the park. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the park amphitheater.

Kohler-Andrae SP information

Urban Wild Canine Project Evening Exploration

David Drake, Extension Wildlife Specialist/Professor at UW-Madison, will explain what a UW-Madison research project has discovered about the relationships between red foxes and coyotes in an urban area. Plus, Dr. Drake will share information on the methods used to catch, radio collar, and track these animals. This program is most appropriate for people over the age of 12 years old. Location: Ice Age Visitor Center (located off Hwy 67 half mile west of Dundee)

Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Horicon Marsh Education Center information

Horicon Marsh has been formally recognized as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention of the United Nations. This renowned marsh is now home to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The Wildlife Education Program has been conducted at the marsh since the mid-1980s. This program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and applied management.

Lawn Chair Bat Watch

Bring a comfy lawn chair and watch the bats! We'll park our chairs by the bat condo to watch the bats emerge from the bat condo. Meet at the bat condo (near the north shore boat launch).

Naturalist Led Kayak Tour

Must pre-register at Nature Center. Limited to fifteen participants. Arrive at Nicolet Beach Rentals by 9:45 a.m. Naturalist-led tour features Peninsula history and ecology. Two-mile paddle along Peninsula's beautiful shore. Beginners welcome. A lifeguard is not on duty. Youth age 17 and younger must be in a kayak with an adult. $24 plus tax per person payable at Nicolet Beach Concessions. Tour may be cancelled due to weather or high winds.

Birding and Nature (family friendly hike)

Learn basic birding skills, then bird "by ear" to Red Granite Falls to complete your personal birding checklist. Along the way, ask our park naturalist about ferns, plants, or other mysteries. Meet at the Red Granite Falls trail head near the beach parking lot. Children should be accompanied by an adult; sorry, no pets please. Copper Falls SP information

Ancient lava flows, deep gorges, and spectacular waterfalls make Copper Falls one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks. Log buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s add to the park's charm. There is plenty to do; hiking, bicycling, picnicking, fishing and swimming. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through Copper Falls State Park.

Monarch Larva Monitoring Project
