Ice Age Trail Trekkers

Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Wonders of the Heavens: Up-Close with NASA Missions

The sky contains many interesting objects, from the bright sun of the daytime to the moon, planets, stars and more that are visible at night. In this PowerPoint presentation, NASA Solar System Ambassador Regan Haulotte will show how several astronomical bodies can be seen with our eyes from here on Earth, and how they are seen up close in spectacular detail by NASA space probes and space telescopes. Participants will receive list of informative websites and apps so bring your smart phone if you have one. Q & A to follow. Weather permitting, group will then go outdoors. Program is best for age 10 and up; children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at Sanderling Nature Center. No pets allowed.

OutWiGo The Trails of Newport Challenge Hikes

As part of the OutWiGo statewide initiative to get outside with healthy activities, Challenge Hikes are getting us out on the trails, and we're not going to stop until we do them all! Join the park naturalist on this weekly hike. We'll log hours and miles every week. When we are done, we'll have hiked every trail in Newport State Park, enjoying all it has to offer. We started with the shortest trail loop (1.2 mi.) and will end with the longest trail loop (7 mi.) on Aug. 22. On the last day, we'll tally our miles and enjoy a pot luck picnic together. This week's hike will be Europe Bay Trail (to road and back), a 3.75 mile loop. All are welcome to participate. Meet at Lot 1.

Crex Camp for Kids

This wildlife day camp for kids ages 8 to 12 will bring new adventures each day as children explore the wetlands, woods, and prairies of Crex. We recommend bringing mosquito and tick repellant, close-toed shoes, a water bottle and a rain jacket. Pre-registration is required.

Crex Meadows information

Crex Meadows Wildlife Area is a 30,000 acre property of wetlands, brush prairies, and forests scattered across a gently rolling landscape. It is located in western Burnett County. Find it from Highway 70 in Grantsburg. Directional signs will guide you through Grantsburg to the Crex Meadows Wildlife Education and Visitor Center, which is located on County Road D.

Horicon Marsh has been formally recognized as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention of the United Nations. This renowned marsh is now home to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The Wildlife Education Program has been conducted at the marsh since the mid-1980s. This program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and applied management.

Little Naturalist Storytime: Dragonflies

Potawatomi SP information

Potawatomi State Park on the shore of Sturgeon Bay in southern Door County, has 1,200 acres of gently rolling upland terrain bordered by steep slopes and rugged limestone cliffs. The park is named in honor of the tribe that inhabited Green Bay's shores and islands when Europeans first settled the area. The tribe called themselves Bo-De-Wad-Me which means "keeper of the fire." Eventually the spelling and pronunciation were changed to Potawatomi.

Buckhorn SP information

Buckhorn State Park is a paradise for water enthusiasts, hunters, hikers, campers and nature lovers. The park and two adjacent state wildlife areas cover more than 8,000-acres on a peninsula in the Castle Rock Flowage of the Wisconsin River and along the connecting Yellow River. Family and group campsites, unique cart-in camping, a cabin for people with disabilities, canoe trail and an accessible fishing pier, are all available at Buckhorn State Park.

Music in the Park: Sheboygan Ukulele Club with Lil' Rev

Urban Wild Canine Project Evening Exploration

David Drake, Extension Wildlife Specialist/Professor at UW-Madison, will explain what a UW-Madison research project has discovered about the relationships between red foxes and coyotes in an urban area. Plus, Dr. Drake will share information on the methods used to catch, radio collar, and track these animals. This program is most appropriate for people over the age of 12 years old. Location: Ice Age Visitor Center (located off Hwy 67 half mile west of Dundee)
