Fur Trade Encampment - Become a Voyageur!

Paddle a 28-foot canoe! Join us for a truly a hands-on experience in history and camaraderie into the fur trade era and the lives of its most colorful participants - the Voyageurs.You'll get to paddle a Voyageur canoe and learn about the Voyageur way of life.You willstep into the past with Jean Paul Pauquette and Jacques Largillier as your guides. This is a FREE program sponsored by the Friends of Devil's Lake. This program is great for all ages. Activities will happen at the North Shore Boat Launch.

Damsels and Dragons

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Playing with Shakespeare: Children's Workshop

The Summit Players are a traveling theatre company who present short, fun, accessible and free Shakespeare workshops and performances to audiences around the state. This year, join the Players as they perform a mini-version of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. The production is 'Shakespeare out of a trunk,' with minimal set, costumes and props and a focus on actors, as per the style of Shakespeare's time. Prior to the performance, company members will lead a 45-minute children's workshop. 5:30 p.m. workshop; 7 p.m. performance.

Lake Kegonsa State Park offers a natural, peaceful setting beside a glacier-hewed lake. The lake offers swimming, fishing, water-skiing, sailing and motor boating. The lake covers 3,209 acres and is more than 30 feet deep. Park visitors enjoy the lake's excellent fishing. Prairie, forest and marsh habitats offer a variety of camping, hiking, picnicking and skiing opportunities.

Guided Kayak Tour

Go on a kayak adventure at Devil's Lake! Guides will take you on a 2-hour tour of the lake exploring the geology, history and lake's wildlife. Space is limited, so you'll need to preregister. If you need to rent a kayak, please let us know when you register. The rental fee is $25 for a single kayak and $45 for a double. To register, please contact the Nature Center at (608) 356-8301 ext. 140. This program is best for adults and children 10 and older. Meet at the Chateau (North Shore Concessions).

North Country National Scenic Trail in Wisconsin

Pattison SP information

Pattison State Park features the highest waterfalls in Wisconsin and the fourth highest waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. Big Manitou Falls is 165 feet high, and Twin Little Manitou Falls is 31 feet high. This 1,436-acre park also has a lake with a beach, a nature center, camping, nine miles of hiking trails and abundant wildlife.

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Perrot SP information

Perrot State Park, where the Trempealeau River meets the Mississippi River, offers breathtaking views from 500-foot bluffs. The river bank and surrounding wetlands provide wonderful habitat for the many migratory birds that travel through this area twice a year. Unique to southwestern Wisconsin and Perrot are the goat prairies perched high on the bluffs.

Yellowstone Lake SP information

Yellowstone Lake State Park is in the driftless area of southwest Wisconsin. In winter the park is open to ice fishing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.

Animals Entrusted in our Care

Music in the Park: Tim Southwick Johnson

Join the Friends of Mirror Lake as they bring Tim Southwick Johnson to the outdoor amphitheater stage as part of the Music in the Park summer concert series. Tim Southwick Johnson is an accomplished performer on acoustic guitar, mandolin, tenor guitar, ukulele and harmonica. His original songs run the gamut from fun story songs to romping fingerstyle instrumentals. Tim even brings the songwriting process to the stage composing "on the fly". Event is free. A valid park vehicle sticker is required to enter the park. Bring your own chairs or sit on our rock seating. Bug spray suggested.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.
