Ottawa Lake Canoe Trail Kayaking

Come paddle the Ottawa Lake Canoe Trail in a kayak with a State Forest Naturalist! No experience or equipment is necessary, sessions will last one hour. Participants must be 10 and up. Don't forget your sunscreen! Group size is limited, so please reserve your spot at (262) 594-6220 or at the Ottawa Lake contact station. Be courteous to others by being on time. Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Wings of Colorful Scales Drop In at the Beach

On wings of colorful scales, butterflies flutter through the daylight while moths float through the night. You will be amazed at the lives these incredible insects lead. Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Playing with Shakespeare: Get Outside with Will Children's Workshop

High Cliff SP information

High Cliff State Park is the only state-owned recreational area on Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest lake. The park gets its name from the limestone cliff of the Niagara Escarpment, which parallels the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago. The magnificent 12-foot statue of Winnebago Indian Chief Red Bird, standing high on a huge granite rock, overlooks the lake and is a popular destination in the park.

Survival Series; Primitive Fire Making Workshop

Learn the skills of our ancestors. Try your hand at the many and exciting ways to start a fire! Join park naturalists along with fire investigator, teacher and campfire expert Ken Foszcz as he shares his wealth of knowledge and techniques. A "retired" fire chief, Ken has been involved in ski patrol, mountain search and rescue and is a Fire Science instructor at a technical college. This interactive workshop will include use of bow drill, flint and steel and magnifying glass to start a camp fire. Meet at the picnic shelter, parking lot 3.

Aztalan Guided Tour

Aztalan was a fortified town occupied by Native Americans between A.D. 1050 and 1200. It was the northern outpost of the speculator Mississippian Civilization that mysteriously vanished from the Upper Midwest after A.D. 1250. This tour will be led by archaeologist and Friends of Aztalan executive director, Robert Birmingham, co-author of Aztalan: Mysteries of An Ancient Indian Town. Sponsored by the Friends of Aztalan. Guided tours of Aztalan will be conducted every Sunday at 2 p.m. June through August. Group tours for any time can be arranged by calling Robert Birmingham at (608) 516-3421.

Aztalan SP information

Aztalan State Park is a National Historic Landmark and contains one of Wisconsin's most important archaeological sites. It showcases an ancient Middle-Mississippian village that thrived between A.D. 1000 and 1300. The people who settled Aztalan built large, flat-topped pyramidal mounds and a stockade around their village. Portions of the stockade and two mounds have been reconstructed in the park.

Shakespeare in the Park: "The Comedy of Errors"

The Summit Players are a traveling, seven member theatre company who present short, accessible, free Shakespeare workshops and performances to audiences around the state of Wisconsin. Summit Players shows are produced with new cuttings of Shakespeare's scripts that become tight, 75-minute shows of mayhem, character switches, and hilarity. The production is 'Shakespeare out of a trunk,' with minimal set, costumes and props and a focus on actors, as per the style of Shakespeare's time. Prior to the performance, company members will lead a 45-minute children's workshop. 1 p.m. workshop; 2:30 p.m. performance. Meet at the Upper Park Pavilion.

Universe in the Park

Universe in the Park (UitP) is a popular outreach program of the UW-Madison Astronomy Department and is predicated on a very simple idea: the best environment in which to introduce the general public to astronomy is outside under dark skies. The UitP session begins with a 20-30 minute talk and slide presentation covering a broad view of astronomy and recent astronomical news. Following the presentation, a telescope is set up to view whatever astronomical objects are available. Question and answer period follows around the telescope.

Lake Kegonsa State Park offers a natural, peaceful setting beside a glacier-hewed lake. The lake offers swimming, fishing, water-skiing, sailing and motor boating. The lake covers 3,209 acres and is more than 30 feet deep. Park visitors enjoy the lake's excellent fishing. Prairie, forest and marsh habitats offer a variety of camping, hiking, picnicking and skiing opportunities.

Gettysburg Address and Flag Raising - Plus Smokey Bear!

Considered Wisconsin's most complete park, Peninsula offers 468 campsites, three group camps, a summer theater, an 18-hole golf course, sand beach, bike trails, a lighthouse and eight miles of Door County shoreline. The rollicking waves that skip towards Peninsula's sky high bluffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment.
