Join us for a truly a hands on experience in history and camaraderie into the fur trade era and the lives of its most colorful participants - the Voyageurs. You'll get to paddle a Voyageur canoe and learn about the Voyageur way of life. You will step into the past with Jean Paul Pauquette and Jacques Largillier as your guides. This is a FREE program sponsored by the Friends of Devil's Lake. Activities will happen at the North Shore Boat Launch.

Guided Kayak Tour

Go on an adventure at Devil's Lake by kayak! Guides will take you on a 2 hour tour of the lake exploring the geology and lake's wildlife. Space is limited, so you'll need to preregister. If you need to rent a kayak, please let us know when you register. The rental fee is $25 for a single kayak and $45 for a double. Meet at the Chateau (North Shore Concessions). Starsplitters Astronomy Program

Rock Island SP information

This primitive island off the tip of the Door County Peninsula and northeast of Washington Island in Lake Michigan offers hiking trails, the oldest lighthouse in Wisconsin and 2000 feet of beach. Vehicles are not allowed on the 912-acre island, making for an experience unlike any other Wisconsin state park. Stone buildings, built by a wealthy inventor and his family, house exhibits. The ferry to the island runs Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day.

Furs and Skulls: Peninsula Wildlife

Aztalan Day at the Park

In conjunction with the Lake Mills-Aztalan Historical Society annual Aztalan Day festival Sunday July 16, the Friends of Aztalan State Park will host a Aztalan Day at the Park. The park is located on County Highway Q, 1 mile east of Lake Mills and preserves the ancient Native American town of Aztalan occupied by Native people of the Mississippian culture between AD 1050 and 1200. Park events will include a tour of the ancient town at 10:30 a.m. and a program on Increase Lapham at 3 p.m. Increase Lapham, Wisconsin's famous natural scientist, made the first detailed map of Aztalan that was published in his 1855 book Antiquities of Wisconsin. Lapham researcher, Rob Nurre, will appear as Lapham and describe the historic mapping of Aztalan and also discuss the unusual effigy mound sites in the form of human beings such as the famous Man Mound near Baraboo, now a National Historic Landmark. This program will take place at the park shelter located at the second parking lot. Both special events are free, but a daily or annual Wisconsin State Park sticker is needed for each vehicle and these can be purchased at the park.

The main Lake Mills-Aztalan Historical Society Aztalan Day events will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lake Mills-Aztalan Historical Society grounds at the corner of Hwy Q and Hwy B. Friends of Aztalan State Park board member Kurt Sampson will give a noon presentation on early 20th century Milwaukee Public Museum excavations at Aztalan. This event will take place at the "Princess Mound" located behind the old Church, now the Lake Mills-Aztalan Historical Society Museum.

Aztalan SP information

Aztalan State Park is a National Historic Landmark and contains one of Wisconsin's most important archaeological sites. It showcases an ancient Middle-Mississippian village that thrived between A.D. 1000 and 1300. The people who settled Aztalan built large, flat-topped pyramidal mounds and a stockade around their village. Portions of the stockade and two mounds have been reconstructed in the park.

Whitefish Dunes SP information

Whitefish Dunes State Park protects the fragile dune environment on the eastern Door County Peninsula. The park's nature center features year-round programs, exhibits and displays on ecology, geology and human history. Whitefish Dunes is a day-use park, there is no camping.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

The park is about five miles northeast of Hudson, and has a campground, a boat launch and a 400-foot beach and picnic area centered on 172-acre Little Falls Lake.

Aztalan Guided Tour

Aztalan was a fortified town occupied by Native Americans between A.D. 1050 and 1200. It was the northern outpost of the speculator Mississippian Civilization that mysteriously vanished from the Upper Midwest after A.D. 1250. This tour will be led by archaeologist and Friends of Aztalan executive director, Robert Birmingham, co-author of Aztalan: Mysteries of An Ancient Indian Town. Sponsored by the Friends of Aztalan. Guided tours of Aztalan will be conducted every Sunday at 2 p.m. June through August. Group tours for any time can be arranged by calling Robert Birmingham at (608) 516-3421.
