GO! Discover Drop-Ins: Shadow Flyers: Bats

Find out about Wisconsin's hungry predators that can consume hundreds of mosquitoes every hour, hang upside-down, and fly without feathers. Bats are cool, but they are in trouble! Can you help? Families, friends, and youth groups are invited to head over to Havenwoods on the second and/or third Saturdays of each month. Drop in any time between 9 am and 3 pm to discover something new about nature.

Havenwoods State Forest is Wisconsin's only urban state forest, featuring 237 acres of grasslands, woods and wetlands in the city of Milwaukee. Hike, run, bike and watch wildlife on over six miles of trails. Explore one of the four ponds, stroll over the 120-foot bridge or find a bench to sit and relax outdoors.

Founded in 1911, Devil's Lake is the third oldest state park in Wisconsin, the largest, and the most visited. Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Enjoy lakeshore picnic areas, sandy swimming beaches, 29 miles of hiking trails, or ease into the backcountry solitude. Harrington Beach SP information

Harrington Beach State Park has more than a mile of beach along Lake Michigan. This 715-acre park also features a white cedar and hardwood swamp, old field grasslands with restored wetland ponds and a scenic limestone quarry lake. Camp, sunbathe, picnic, hike, bird watch, fish or practice astronomy. An observatory is open to the public for monthly viewings.

Perrot SP information

Perrot State Park, where the Trempealeau River meets the Mississippi River, offers breathtaking views from 500-foot bluffs. The river bank and surrounding wetlands provide wonderful habitat for the many migratory birds that travel through this area twice a year. Unique to southwestern Wisconsin and Perrot are the goat prairies perched high on the bluffs.

Healthy Kids Outdoors!

Experience the outdoors with fun and educational activities geared towards wildlife and natural resources! Explore, observe, analyze, identify and learn to protect and conserve nature through hikes, hands-on activities and exploration of the outdoors. Enjoy a wholesome snack at each session to influence healthy food choices for growing minds. This program will encourage children to find comfort, excitement and new interests in the outdoors and inspire them to leave a few hours of screen time behind them each week. Meet at the Nature Center.

Willow River SP information

With nearly 3,000 acres of prairie, forests, and panoramic river scenery, Willow River State Park offers year-round recreation opportunities in western Wisconsin. The park is about five miles northeast of Hudson, and has a campground, a boat launch and a 400-foot beach and picnic area centered on 172-acre Little Falls Lake.

Wildflowers, Pollinators and Invasives

What wildflowers can you name? Who are all the pollinators? What are invasive species? What harm do they cause? Can you find some examples of all these on the Newport Trail and Lakeview Trails? Complete the Wildflower, pollinator, invasives bingo cards for prizes. Stop by the Naturalist at the beach for some information and bingo card. In the event of rain, this program will be held in the park office.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

Nature Recyclers Drop In at the Beach

Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

To Build A Fire

Whitefish Dunes SP information

Whitefish Dunes State Park protects the fragile dune environment on the eastern Door County Peninsula. Stroll along Lake Michigan, watch waterfowl at Clark Lake, use the boardwalk to discover the wetlands or relax on one of the many trails throughout the forested sand dunes and beech forest. The park's nature center features year-round programs, exhibits and displays on ecology, geology and human history. Whitefish Dunes is a day-use park, there is no camping.

Discover Loon Lake: Yellow Iris Aquatic Survey and Paddle

Sign up by NOON at the park office to join this on-the-water aquatic exploration to identify "plants out of place" on Loon Lake's shoreline. Limited number of paddleboards or kayaks available or bring your own non-motorized craft. At 3 p.m. paddlers return to Loon lake's beach to share notes and stories. Meet at Loon Lake beach. Children should be accompanied by an adult; sorry, no pets please. In case of inclement weather, check with office staff for updates at 715-274-5123.

Copper Falls SP information

Ancient lava flows, deep gorges, and spectacular waterfalls make Copper Falls one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks. Log buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s add to the park's charm. There is plenty to do; hiking, bicycling, picnicking, fishing and swimming. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through Copper Falls State Park.

Wisconsin Explorers Program

Playing with Shakespeare: Children's Workshop

The Summit Players are a traveling theatre company who present short, fun, accessible and free Shakespeare workshops and performances to audiences around the state. This year, join the Players as they perform a mini-version of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. The production is 'Shakespeare out of a trunk,' with minimal set, costumes and props and a focus on actors, as per the style of Shakespeare's time. Prior to the performance, company members will lead a 45-minute children's workshop. 5:30 p.m. workshop; 7 p.m. performance.

This park northeast of Chippewa Falls has more than 1,000 acres of forest and open prairie on a 6,300-acre man-made lake. Lake Wissota State Park offers secluded campsites, hiking, biking and horseback riding trails, picnic and playground areas, and a 285-foot swimming beach. Boating, canoeing, kayaking, and water skiing are popular summer activities on Lake Wissota.

Cranes, Herons and Egrets: The Elegance of our Tallest Birds

Guided Kayak Tour

Go on a kayak adventure at Devil's Lake! Guides will take you on a 2-hour tour of the lake exploring the geology, history and lake's wildlife. Space is limited, so you'll need to preregister. If you need to rent a kayak, please let us know when you register. The rental fee is $25 for a single kayak and $45 for a double. To register, please contact the Nature Center at (608) 356-8301 ext. 140. This program is best for adults and children 10 and older. Meet at the Chateau (North Shore Concessions).
