Step into the Night Hike

As the sun sets and the light fades from the sky, the day animals retire and a new group of animals awakens. Bring your bug spray and sense of adventure as we explore the darkness for nature's night lights. This night hike is best for families/groups with children at least 5 years old. Location: Long Lake Recreation Area Picnic Shelter (located off Division Road north of County Road F near Dundee)

Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Harrington Beach SP information

Harrington Beach State Park has more than a mile of beach along Lake Michigan. This 715-acre park also features a white cedar and hardwood swamp, old field grasslands with restored wetland ponds and a scenic limestone quarry lake. Camp, sunbathe, picnic, hike, bird watch, fish or practice astronomy. An observatory is open to the public for monthly viewings.

Women's Walking and Wellness Program

Spend time in nature, get healthy, and train to walk the Empowered Women's Half-Marathon or 5k (Saturday, September 28) or a Willow River Trail Run--a 6.6k, 10.6k, or half-marathon-(Saturday, October 12). Weekly walking groups begin Saturday, June 8 at 8:30 a.m. at Willow River State Park. In addition to weekly walking groups, monthly programs--including yoga, healthy eating and meal planning, local foods, and other wellness programs--will be offered at the nature center.

This program is funded by an Allina Neighborhood Health Connection Grant to Gateway Arts and Wellness and is available to up to 10 community members, free of charge. Participants must commit to participate in at least 10 of the 20 sessions, which run Saturdays June 8 - October 19, 2019. Most sessions run from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Willow River SP information

With nearly 3,000 acres of prairie, forests, and panoramic river scenery, Willow River State Park offers year-round recreation opportunities in western Wisconsin. The park is about five miles northeast of Hudson, and has a campground, a boat launch and a 400-foot beach and picnic area centered on 172-acre Little Falls Lake.

Wild Ginger Planting

Adult volunteers are invited to help plant wild ginger to be used as an experiment to counteract garlic mustard. Planting will take place in the Woodland Dunes area where some garlic mustard was pulled in late May and it will be monitored in coming years. Volunteers should wear long pants, long-sleeve shirts and a hat. Insect repellent will be provided. Work gloves will be provided unless you wish to use your own. If you have a garden spade, feel free to bring it. We ask that volunteers call the park office to register. Admission fee will be waived for volunteers; please park in Lot #8. Rain date is June 15.

Kohler-Andrae State Park in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, is the home of majestic sand dunes, miles of golden beach, shimmering blue Lake Michigan water, whispering pines, an abundance of wildlife, and recreational activities for everyone. MacKenzie Center information

The MacKenzie Center, just 25 miles north of Madison, is one of the most diverse education centers in Wisconsin. With interpretive trails, exhibits, museums and programming available for school and youth groups, MacKenzie is a wonderful place to visit and learn about the natural world. The State Game Farm is connected to the MacKenzie Center and is adjacent to the arboretum on the western half of the property.

GO! Discover Drop-Ins: Alien EAB Invasion!

Havenwoods State Forest is Wisconsin's only urban state forest, featuring 237 acres of grasslands, woods and wetlands in the city of Milwaukee. Extreme Saturday Morning

Calling all youth to come explore the extremes of nature by participating in the Wisconsin Explorers program! The program involves completing a required number of activities in one of three age appropriate books (ages 3-5; ages 6-8; and ages 9+) to earn a very cool patch. Get help from a naturalist who will work with youth on activities from one of the first four topic areas of the books. Locations: Picnic Shelters at Mauthe Lake Recreation Area (off County Road GGG south of County Road SS near New Prospect) and Long Lake Recreation Area (off Division Road north of County Road F near Dundee).

Perrot SP information

Perrot State Park, where the Trempealeau River meets the Mississippi River, offers breathtaking views from 500-foot bluffs. The river bank and surrounding wetlands provide wonderful habitat for the many migratory birds that travel through this area twice a year. Unique to southwestern Wisconsin and Perrot are the goat prairies perched high on the bluffs.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Whitefish Dunes SP information

Whitefish Dunes State Park protects the fragile dune environment on the eastern Door County Peninsula. Stroll along Lake Michigan, watch waterfowl at Clark Lake, use the boardwalk to discover the wetlands or relax on one of the many trails throughout the forested sand dunes and beech forest. The park's nature center features year-round programs, exhibits and displays on ecology, geology and human history. Whitefish Dunes is a day-use park, there is no camping.

Considered Wisconsin's most complete park, Peninsula offers 468 campsites, three group camps, a summer theater, an 18-hole golf course, sand beach, bike trails, a lighthouse and eight miles of Door County shoreline. The rollicking waves that skip towards Peninsula's sky high bluffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment.
