S'more Contest and Smokey Bear's 75th Birthday Bash

Let your imagination run wild and create your most unique and delicious s'more to honor Smokey Bear's 75th Birthday. A panel of judges will award prizes to the best s'mores of the evening during the family concert intermission. Official contest rules available by June 1 at a Forest office or on the Friends of the Kettle Moraine website. A campfire will be blazing for folks to make their own tasty treats. In the case of inclement weather, the contest will move to the Ice Age Visitor Center (located off Hwy 67 half mile west of Dundee). Sponsored by Friends of the Kettle Moraine. Guided Kayak Tour

Go on a kayak adventure at Devil's Lake! Guides will take you on a 2-hour tour of the lake exploring the geology, history and lake's wildlife. Space is limited, so you'll need to preregister. If you need to rent a kayak, please let us know when you register. The rental fee is $25 for a single kayak and $45 for a double. To register, please contact the Nature Center at (608) 356-8301 ext. 140. This program is best for adults and children 10 and older. Meet at the Chateau (North Shore Concessions).

Devil's Lake SP information

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Potawatomi SP information

Potawatomi State Park on the shore of Sturgeon Bay in southern Door County, has 1,200 acres of gently rolling upland terrain bordered by steep slopes and rugged limestone cliffs. The park is named in honor of the tribe that inhabited Green Bay's shores and islands when Europeans first settled the area. The tribe called themselves Bo-De-Wad-Me which means "keeper of the fire." Eventually the spelling and pronunciation were changed to Potawatomi.

Shakespeare in the Park: Romeo & Juliet

The Summit Players are a traveling theatre company who present short, fun, accessible and free Shakespeare workshops and performances to audiences around the state. This year, join the Players as they perform a mini-version of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. The production is 'Shakespeare out of a trunk,' with minimal set, costumes and props and a focus on actors, as per the style of Shakespeare's time. Prior to the performance, company members will lead a 45-minute children's workshop. 5:30 p.m. workshop; 7 p.m. performance.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

Reptiles and Amphibians of Wisconsin

Stargazing at the Dark Sky Park

Join us at Wisconsin's only designated dark sky park for a night of star gazing. There will be a telescope and other equipment set up with some of Door County's best amateur astronomers on hand to point out some highlights of the night sky. All are welcome to bring their own telescopes, binoculars, chairs and blankets. Flashlights or headlamps with red lens cover is recommended. It is always a good idea to come during day time hours to familiarize yourself with the area first. This program will be cancelled if viewing conditions are poor. Park at Lot 3 and follow the marked path.
