"Winged Wonders" family event

Have you ever smelled the flowers outside? Enjoyed the taste of your favorite fruit or vegetable? Who do you think is to thank? Our native pollinators (birds, bats, butterflies, and bees)! Bring your family and friends for a day of fun learning activities, interactive displays, and organizations interested in our native pollinators.

A Butterfly Presentation "The Marvelous Monarchs" by Kathy McGrath. Kathy will have live examples to share too will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Kathy is a retired kindergarten teacher from Port Edwards. Since retiring Kathy is busy giving presentations, raising and tagging the Monarch butterfly. In the spring of 2017 she worked to have Port Edwards named the first Monarch Village in the United States.

Kris Rued-Clark will be here to sign and discuss her book: "Adventures on Wisconsin's Ice Age Trail."

Additional Activities planned for the day are: a scavenger hunt, crafts, children activities, prizes. Admission is Free, but donations are always appreciated

Mead Wildlife Area Center information

The Stanton W. Mead Education and Visitor Center is a 6,208 square foot education and administration facility designed as an example of sustainable and environmentally-responsible construction. One of the goals of the Mead Wildlife Area is to provide wildlife and environmental programs to the citizens of Wisconsin. These programs help to foster a sense of environmental stewardship, that through education we can achieve a better understanding of the values and issues of our wildlife and natural resources.

Night Fliers - Bats and Owls: Drop In at the Beach

Unravel the many astonishing truths about the only true flying mammals - bats, and silent fliers - owls. Everyone is invited to drop in for a few minutes or more than an hour for some nature fun. Adults are encouraged to participate with their children. Location: Mauthe Lake Recreation Area Beach (located off County Road GGG south of County Road SS near New Prospect).

Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

The Amazing Nature Race

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Playing with Shakespeare: Get Outside with Will Children's Workshop

High Cliff SP information

High Cliff State Park is the only state-owned recreational area on Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest lake. The park gets its name from the limestone cliff of the Niagara Escarpment, which parallels the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago. The magnificent 12-foot statue of Winnebago Indian Chief Red Bird, standing high on a huge granite rock, overlooks the lake and is a popular destination in the park.

Drop-in Discovery Station - Pond Critters

Scuppernong Springs Guided Hike

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Shakespeare in the Park "Twelfth Night"

The Summit Players are a traveling theatre company who present short, accessible, free Shakespeare workshops and performances to audiences around the state of Wisconsin. Summit Players shows are produced with new cuttings of Shakespeare's scripts that become tight, 75-minute shows of mayhem, character switches, and hilarity. The production is 'Shakespeare out of a trunk,' with minimal set, costumes and props and a focus on actors, as per the style of Shakespeare's time. Prior to the performance, company members will lead a 45-minute children's workshop. 1 p.m. workshop; 2:30 p.m. performance. Meet at the Upper Park Pavilion.

Naturalist Cabin Open (with option for hike)

Drop in to check out cool pelts, kids games, tracks, and critters, or visit with our staff naturalist to share information on the park's flora and fauna. Opens 12:30 p.m. with option for naturalist led hikes upon request between 1 and 3 p.m. (minimum # for hike). The naturalist cabin is located just south of the main parking lot. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the hike option; easy to moderately steep terrain. Sorry, no pets please.

Copper Falls SP information

Ancient lava flows, deep gorges, and spectacular waterfalls make Copper Falls one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks. Log buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s add to the park's charm. There is plenty to do; hiking, bicycling, picnicking, fishing and swimming. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through Copper Falls State Park.
