High Cliff Aurora BayCare Toughman

High Cliff State Park will host the annual Aurora BayCare Toughman (formerly known as the High Cliff Triathlon). A state park vehicle admission sticker is required by all participants and spectators. High Cliff SP information

High Cliff State Park is the only state-owned recreational area on Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest lake. The park gets its name from the limestone cliff of the Niagara Escarpment, which parallels the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago. The magnificent 12-foot statue of Winnebago Indian Chief Red Bird, standing high on a huge granite rock, overlooks the lake and is a popular destination in the park.

2018 Ahnapee Summer Solstice Ultramarathon and Relay

Celebrate the start of summer with a run on the Ahnapee State Trail. Runners will line up at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds entrance for a 7 a.m. start. They will head through Luxemburg to the Ahnapee State Trail, where they will continue for most of the rest of the event. Runners can choose different lengths to run. From downtown Sturgeon Bay, this 46-mile, county-operated trail winds south along the beautiful Ahnapee and Kewaunee rivers to Algoma, Casco, Luxemburg and Kewaunee, passing by a mixture of evergreen glades, farmland, prairies and wooded areas teeming with wildlife and native wildflowers.

Horicon Marsh Paddle

Horicon Marsh Education Center information

Horicon Marsh has been formally recognized as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention of the United Nations. This renowned marsh is now home to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The Wildlife Education Program has been conducted at the marsh since the mid-1980s. This program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and applied management.

Weekend Wellness Walk

Saturday Morning Secret Finders

Calling all youth to discover secrets of nature by participating in the Wisconsin Explorers program! The program involves completing a required number of engaging nature activities in one of three age appropriate books (ages 3-5, ages 6-8, and ages 9+) to earn a very cool patch. Get help from a naturalist who will work with youth on activities from one of the first four topic areas of the books. Locations: Picnic Shelters at Mauthe Lake Recreation Area (located off County Road GGG south of County Road SS near New Prospect) and Long Lake Recreation Area (located off Division Road north of County Road F near Dundee).

Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Wild Flower Hike!

Willow River SP information

With nearly 3,000 acres of prairie, forests, and panoramic river scenery, Willow River State Park offers year-round recreation opportunities in western Wisconsin. The park is about five miles northeast of Hudson, and has a campground, a boat launch and a 400-foot beach and picnic area centered on 172-acre Little Falls Lake.

Morning Hike

Enjoy a guided morning hike with park naturalist Reed Cockrell. Meet at the north end of the pool parking lot by the Friends Shelter.

Morning hikes are held most Saturdays and Sundays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Check with the park office to confirm dates and times and to see what topic will be covered.

Blue Mound SP information

Perched atop the highest point in southern Wisconsin, Blue Mound State Park offers spectacular views and unique geological features. A swimming pool is available in during summer. Over 20 miles of scenic hiking, off-road biking, and cross-country ski trails, as well as a family campground, access to the Military Ridge State Trail with bike-in campsites, and a rustic cabin for people with disabilities make Blue Mound a popular destination year-round.

History and Nature Hike of Mirror Lake

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

Capital Springs BioBlitz

The Milwaukee Public Museum is sponsoring the very first BioBlitz in Dane County at Lake Farm County Park! Over 90 scientists from several different fields will identify as many plant and animal species as they can within a 24-hour period. Spiders, insects, mammals, plants, fish, reptiles and many other species will be identified.

Come and see what they discover! Use microscopes, see live critters, and interact with the scientists! Enjoy activities and games, bring home free native seeds so you can support biodiversity at home. Also, explore UW Arboretum's citizen science activities, Aldo Leopold Nature Center's skins and skulls display, Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District's water exhibit, the Milwaukee Public Museum's curator displays, and a guided prairie walk at 1 p.m. For more information, see the BioBlitz website.

This event is free and open to the public - a great family event! Event hosts are the Friends of Capital Springs Recreation Area and Dane County Parks. Event partners include Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District and the DNR.

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Whitefish Dunes SP information

Whitefish Dunes State Park protects the fragile dune environment on the eastern Door County Peninsula. Stroll along Lake Michigan, watch waterfowl at Clark Lake, use the boardwalk to discover the wetlands or relax on one of the many trails throughout the forested sand dunes and beech forest. The park's nature center features year-round programs, exhibits and displays on ecology, geology and human history. Whitefish Dunes is a day-use park, there is no camping.
