Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Location: Copper Falls SP

Please join the Friends of Copper Falls State Park for our 2019 clean up event. Volunteers are needed to assist with a variety of projects at the park, including cleanup of leaves and brush, painting fence and bridge railings, litter removal, and a variety of other tasks. Volunteer should wear work shoes/boots, long pants and gloves. Please bring rakes and wheelbarrows if possible. Other hand tools will be provided. The Friends of Copper Falls State Park will provide lunch for all volunteers and there will also be some great door prizes. Park admission fees will be waived for all volunteers. For more information, please contact the park office at 715-274-5123. Meet at the concession building in the main picnic area.

Copper Falls SP information

Ancient lava flows, deep gorges, and spectacular waterfalls make Copper Falls one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks. Log buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s add to the park's charm. There is plenty to do; hiking, bicycling, picnicking, fishing and swimming. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through Copper Falls State Park.

Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Volunteers are needed to help us with some trail maintenance and repair projects, or grab a bag and walk an area or trail to pick up litter. Hosted by the Friends of Lapham Peak, a light lunch will be served after the work is done! Meet at the Trecker Lodge.

Kettle Moraine SF - Lapham Peak Unit information

The Kettle Moraine and Lapham Peak were formed 10,000 years ago when a glacier covered much of Wisconsin. Lapham Peak's glaciated topography provides excellent hiking, backpacking, and cross-country skiing on lighted trails. Climb a 45-foot observation tower atop the highest point in Waukesha County (1,233 feet above sea level).

GO! Discover: Frogs and Toads

Havenwoods SF information

Havenwoods State Forest is Wisconsin's only urban state forest, featuring 237 acres of grasslands, woods and wetlands in the city of Milwaukee. Hike, run, bike and watch wildlife on over six miles of trails. Explore one of the four ponds, stroll over the 120-foot bridge or find a bench to sit and relax outdoors.

OutWiGo Mother Earth - Mother's Day Celebration

Join us for a morning with your "mother", whether here or in spirit. All are welcome at this free event. Activities include: "Spring Ephemerals" PowerPoint presentation by Door County's Charlotte Lukes, lover of nature, conservationist and teacher;  coffee, granola and baked goods from Door County Love and Kick Ash Coffee;  morning hike with the naturalist; plant a milkweed starter to take home. Bring a clean, empty recycled container (i.e. a milk jug, a 2 liter bottle, a large, hinged plastic produce box, etc.). We'll supply the soil, seed and instruction.

Newport State Park, northeast of Ellison Bay, is Wisconsin's only formally-designated wilderness park. The rollicking waves that skip towards Peninsula's sky high bluffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment.

Spring Wildflower Hike

Join the Friends of Rib Mountain State Park to hike and explore the glory of Rib Mountain, and enjoy the park's many spring wildflowers. The hike will begin at the concession stand at 10 a.m. and last about one hour. Hikers should bring water and tick repellent and be prepared to hike some uneven trails with downhill and uphill areas.

This billion-year-old hill is one of the oldest geological formations on earth. Rib Mountain State Park is a premier day-use facility with picnicking, hiking trails and a reservable amphitheater. The top of the 60-foot observation tower offers spectacular views of the Wausau area and Wisconsin River. Granite Peak Ski Area is on the north face of the mountain and offers downhill skiing and snowboarding during winter.

Cache In Trash Out Event

Join forces with the Wisconsin Geocaching Association to search for caches and bring out trash and garlic mustard. Prizes will be awarded for the most pounds of trash and garlic mustard collected within the Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit. Bonus points awarded for each cache found. Register at one of the three locations and to pick up your bags and return to a location for a weigh in of the materials gathered. Please bring your own gloves. Locations: Mauthe Lake Recreation Area (located off County Road GGG south of County Road SS near New Prospect), Ice Age Visitor Center (located off Hwy 67 half mile west of Dundee).

Join Wisconsin State Parks for a day of adventure, learning and celebrating women in the outdoors. OutWiGo Girls is a special event set in Wisconsin's beautiful Kettle Moraine State Forest - Southern Unit. From wildflower hikes, inspiring talks, bike rides, nature crafts and more, this day of fun is fit for OutWiGo Girls of all ages. Bring friends and family or fly solo as we celebrate Mother's Day weekend with Mother Nature. This event is FREE and open to the public, however a Wisconsin State Parks vehicle admission sticker is required. Meet at Scuppernong Trail System parking lot off of Highway ZZ. Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Accessible cabin open house

The Friends of Mirror Lake State Park are holding an open house to showcase the newly remodeled accessible cabin. The cabin was built in 1991 and was in need of a new roof, window repairs, upgrading of the screened in porch to a three-season porch, and upgrading many amenities inside the cabin. The goal of the project was to offer disabled individuals and their guests a comfortable environment and an opportunity to enjoy camping in a state park.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

Nicolet Trail via "Shanty Bay"

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Explore the Night Sky

Join the Madison Astronomy Society (MAS) to learn about the night sky. MAS will have several telescopes set up and show you cool features about the moon, point you towards some winter constellations. This is more of an informal program where you can come anytime, and the MAS volunteers will help you get to know the night sky. This program is best for kids 7 and older and adults, but open to "kids" of all ages. Meet near the north shore boat launch parking lot, just behind the Rock Elm Shelter.

Devil's Lake SP information

Founded in 1911, Devil's Lake is the third oldest state park in Wisconsin, the largest, and the most visited. Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Enjoy lakeshore picnic areas, sandy swimming beaches, 29 miles of hiking trails, or ease into the backcountry solitude. Devil's Lake is a beautiful year-round park with an intriguing natural history along the 1,000-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail.
