Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Help give the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive a spring cleaning. Join others for a morning of camaraderie and litter pick up. Youth and other groups are encouraged to participate. Bring your own gloves. Garbage bags will be provided. Go to the Forest Headquarters off County Road G to get your road assignment. After the cleanup, meet back at the Headquarters for snacks and refreshments. Sponsored by the Friends of the Kettle Moraine. To register groups, call (262) 626-2116. Location: Forest Headquarters (located off County Road G south of County Road SS near New Prospect).

Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Celebrate EARTH DAY 2018 by volunteering at your Wisconsin State Parks, Forests, Trails and Recreation Areas!

Volunteers are needed to clear brush from roadways and campsites, clear sand from trails and parking lots and pick up litter. Volunteers should wear work shoes/boots, long pants, gloves and bring shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows if they have them. Individual and group efforts are all welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Vehicle admission will be waived for volunteers, and that there will also be a lunch provided by the Friends of Copper Falls.

Copper Falls SP information

Ancient lava flows, deep gorges, and spectacular waterfalls make Copper Falls one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks. Log buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s add to the park's charm. There is plenty to do; hiking, bicycling, picnicking, fishing and swimming. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through Copper Falls State Park.

Stower Seven Lakes ST information

Built on a former railroad corridor, this 14-mile trail begins in Amery at Harriman Avenue, travels through the communities of Deronda, Wanderoos and Nye, ending about one mile from Dresser at 90th Avenue. The trail passes through maple and oak forests, wetlands, prairies and farmlands, and past many picturesque lakes. The trail crosses between the North Twin and South Twin lakes in Amery, skirts the south end of Bear Trap Lake, the north end of Kinney lake, and runs along Dwight, Horse and Lotus lakes near the western end.

Celebrate EARTH DAY 2018 by volunteering at your Wisconsin State Parks, Forests, Trails and Recreation Areas!

Come volunteer at our work day and help us prepare the park for another season. Activities include: picking up brush in the campgrounds, painting/repairing picnic tables, splitting and stacking firewood, planting trees and pulling garlic mustard. Meet at the Main Park Office at 9 a.m. The program will go until noon, followed by lunch, provided by the Merrick TURTLES. Please bring gloves, water and close-toed shoes.

Individual and group efforts are all welcome! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Merrick SP information

Located along the lazy Mississippi River and surrounded by the hills of Wisconsin's Coulee Region, the 322-acre Merrick State Park is popular with anglers and boaters. The marshy backwaters are home to a variety of fish, birds, animals and plants. Rising and falling river levels, though controlled some by dams, are part of the natural environment.

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

This event has been cancelled due to unseasonable weather conditions.

Help Whitefish Dunes on a volunteer work day to prepare the park for summer. Outside activities include litter pick up, trail maintenance, removing downed sticks and branches, blowing and raking leaves, and other maintenance activities. Inside activities include cleaning the nature center and exhibits. Bring work gloves if you have them. Lunch provided by the Friends at noon. Please call the office to register 920-823-2400.

Whitefish Dunes SP information

Whitefish Dunes State Park protects the fragile dune environment on the eastern Door County Peninsula. Stroll along Lake Michigan, watch waterfowl at Clark Lake, use the boardwalk to discover the wetlands or relax on one of the many trails throughout the forested sand dunes and beech forest. The park's nature center features year-round programs, exhibits and displays on ecology, geology and human history. Whitefish Dunes is a day-use park, there is no camping.

Harrington Beach SP information

Harrington Beach State Park has more than a mile of beach along Lake Michigan. This 715-acre park also features a white cedar and hardwood swamp, old field grasslands with restored wetland ponds and a scenic limestone quarry lake. Camp, sunbathe, picnic, hike, bird watch, fish or practice astronomy. An observatory is open to the public for monthly viewings.

Buckhorn State Park is a paradise for water enthusiasts, hunters, hikers, campers and nature lovers. UW Men's Rowing Competition

The UW Men's Rowing Team will play host to races for the Jablonic Cup against Boston University and the Cochrane Cup against MIT at Devil's Lake in Baraboo. Crews from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Minnesota are also scheduled to compete. The UW also races Sun. April 29 against Northwestern University.

Like to Hike: Spring Walk to the Black Ash Swamp

Tucked behind Peninsula's Nature Center, fed by spring water oozing from the bluff edges, is a temporal wetland. Sturdy black ash trees rise up from a forest floor carpeted with ferns. Join Peninsula's naturalist for a peek at this often overlooked natural gem. Less than half-mile, easy walking. We will avoid getting our feet wet, but swamp edges will be muddy. This site is showing signs of dreaded emerald ash borer. Learn the key to this site's survival, and which species already stake a claim here. This program is free and open to the public, but a state park vehicle sticker is required. Meet at the nature center.

Considered Wisconsin's most complete park, Peninsula offers 468 campsites, three group camps, a summer theater, an 18-hole golf course, sand beach, bike trails, a lighthouse and eight miles of Door County shoreline. The rollicking waves that skip towards Peninsula's sky high bluffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment.

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Adult Hike: Wildflower Walk and Garlic Mustard Patrol

Volunteers will meet at the Nature Center and work in the campground and picnic areas until noon. We will have food available for lunch and then get back to a few projects in the afternoon. Projects include cleaning up brush and broken branches in the campground and picnic areas, installing fire rings on campsites, picking up litter along our roads, and painting boards for our picnic tables.

Perrot SP information

Perrot State Park, where the Trempealeau River meets the Mississippi River, offers breathtaking views from 500-foot bluffs. The river bank and surrounding wetlands provide wonderful habitat for the many migratory birds that travel through this area twice a year. Unique to southwestern Wisconsin and Perrot are the goat prairies perched high on the bluffs.
