Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Celebrate Earth Day by helping us remove invasive species, pick up litter, and participate in other activities. Individuals, businesses, school groups, and other organizations are all welcome to attend. This will be a drop-in event, so please stop by the Badger Den anytime between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. to help with various projects.


MacKenzie Center information

The MacKenzie Center, just 25 miles north of Madison, is one of the most diverse education centers in Wisconsin. With interpretive trails, exhibits, museums and programming available for school and youth groups, MacKenzie is a wonderful place to visit and learn about the natural world. The State Game Farm is connected to the MacKenzie Center and is adjacent to the arboretum on the western half of the property.

Monday Night Hike

Join us on Monday evenings at the Southern Unit at 5 p.m. for a series of 2-3 mile exercise hikes!

April 22-Meet at the Forest Headquarters for a special hike on a portion of the McMiller Ski trails, the Ice Age Trail, and Stute Springs Nature Trail. This hike will total about 3 miles.


Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Nature Time for Preschoolers: Recycled Art.

Havenwoods SF information

Havenwoods State Forest is Wisconsin's only urban state forest, featuring 237 acres of grasslands, woods and wetlands in the city of Milwaukee. Hike, run, bike and watch wildlife on over six miles of trails. Explore one of the four ponds, stroll over the 120-foot bridge or find a bench to sit and relax outdoors.

Monarch Larval Monitoring Project Training

Interested in participating in a Citizen Science project this summer? Come to this informational meeting to learn about what is involved with monitoring a monarch test area at Newport for Monarch Lab. Meet with the park naturalist who will walk you through the process. There will be video presentations given by instructors from the University of Minnesota's Monarch Lab. Monitoring will go on once a week from roughly June through September. You can volunteer as much or as little as you want, but training is required. There will be another opportunity for training on May 21. Call Beth, park naturalist, if you have any questions. Meets in the Nature Center.


Newport SP information

Newport State Park, northeast of Ellison Bay, is Wisconsin's only formally-designated wilderness park. With 2,373 acres and 11 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, the park offers quiet alternatives to bustling Door County. Explore 30 miles of hiking trails with hike-in campsites. There are evergreen and hardwood forests, wetlands and upland meadows.
