Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Learn to Fish

Want to try fishing but don't know what to do? Join our Learn to Fish program and we'll show you how! We'll have fun activities that will teach you the basics before sending you off to catch some fish. If you are 16 and older, you'll need a fishing license. We'll supply all of the equipment and bait. This program's activities are designed with families in mind, but open to "kids" of all ages. Meet at the north shore boat launch.

Devil's Lake SP information

Founded in 1911, Devil's Lake is the third oldest state park in Wisconsin, the largest, and the most visited. Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Enjoy lakeshore picnic areas, sandy swimming beaches, 29 miles of hiking trails, or ease into the backcountry solitude. Devil's Lake is a beautiful year-round park with an intriguing natural history along the 1,000-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Location: Peninsula SP

Peninsula State Park will be participating in the state-wide event with support from the Friends of Peninsula State Park. Volunteers are being sought to plant trees, clear brush and pick up litter. Volunteers should wear work shoes/boots, long pants, gloves if they have them. Individual and group efforts are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please meet at the Nicolet Beach parking lot for group assignments. Noon refreshments and treats will be provided. Park admission is free for those volunteering. Pre-registration is not required. Considered Wisconsin's most complete park, Peninsula offers 468 campsites, three group camps, a summer theater, an 18-hole golf course, sand beach, bike trails, a lighthouse and eight miles of Door County shoreline. The rollicking waves that skip towards Peninsula's sky high bluffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment.

Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Location: Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit

Kettle Moraine State Forest - Pike Lake Unit is looking for volunteers to participate in a state-wide event celebrating Earth Day. Volunteers are needed to help plant trees, clean up flower beds, trail construction, pick up litter and sticks. Volunteers should wear work boots, long pants and gloves. Please bring your own shovels, litter pickers and gloves if available. A state park admission sticker is not required for volunteers. Please park at the beach parking lot and meet at the amphitheater. A gift from the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks, hotdogs and bottled water will be provided after the event.

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

Kohler-Andrae State Park will be participating in the state-wide event. Volunteers are being sought to clear brush from roadways and campsites, clear sand from trails and parking lots and pick up litter. Volunteers should wear work shoes/boots, long pants, gloves and bring shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows if they have them. Individual and group efforts are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Please meet at the indoor shelter in the north campground for group assignments. Noon refreshments will be provided. Park admission is free for those volunteering. Pre-registration is not required for individuals; however, we would appreciate having large groups contact us prior to April 18. Join the Friends of Potawatomi State Park in prepping the park for spring! Volunteers are needed to help with seasonal clean-up of the campgrounds, trails, picnic areas and playgrounds. Activities will include litter pick up, removing downed sticks and branches, blowing and raking leaves, spreading woodchips, and other maintenance activities. Water and snacks will be provided by the Friends of Potawatomi State Park. Volunteers should wear long pants, sturdy footwear, and gloves. Some hand tools will be provided, but volunteers may also bring their own shovels, rakes, and other hand tools. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the shelter building by the campground.

Potawatomi SP information

Potawatomi State Park on the shore of Sturgeon Bay in southern Door County, has 1,200 acres of gently rolling upland terrain bordered by steep slopes and rugged limestone cliffs. The park is named in honor of the tribe that inhabited Green Bay's shores and islands when Europeans first settled the area. The tribe called themselves Bo-De-Wad-Me which means "keeper of the fire." Eventually the spelling and pronunciation were changed to Potawatomi.

Hike the Echo Rock and Ishnala Trail with Marty

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

 The Friends of Perrot State Park will be hosting our annual Work Play Earth Day volunteer event. We are asking for help to spruce up our campground, nature center and surrounding prairies. We will be pulling brambles and woody vegetation out of our prairies, removing invasive species, cleaning campsites, picking up litter in our campground, and cleaning the inside and outside of the nature center. Volunteers should wear work shoes/boots, long pants, and bring gloves. Individuals and group efforts are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Refreshments will be provided at noon. Perrot SP information

Perrot State Park, where the Trempealeau River meets the Mississippi River, offers breathtaking views from 500-foot bluffs. The river bank and surrounding wetlands provide wonderful habitat for the many migratory birds that travel through this area twice a year. Unique to southwestern Wisconsin and Perrot are the goat prairies perched high on the bluffs.

April Frog Hikes

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Frog Safari

If you are a frog fanatic, you will want to join us for this nocturnal trip to the park's kettle ponds. We'll listen for spring peepers, wood frogs, and chorus frogs. We'll also listen for other night sounds as we hike the Johnson Moraine Trail. Bring your flashlight as we'll be hiking right around dusk. Meet at the Steinke Basin parking lot.
