Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Join the Friends of Mirror Lake State Park at our annual Work Play Earth Day event!. Volunteers will be doing campsite improvement (raking, blowing, litter pick-up and possibly painting), trail clearing and litter pick up, and improvements at the Accessible Cabin. We may also be replacing some fire rings as well as cleaning up the amphitheater and picnic areas. Meet at 9 a.m. at the park office.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. GO! Discover: Duck, Duck, Goose.

Upscaled Art Exploring Nature Program

Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Family Wild Day Out

Participants will play nature-based games, create woodland crafts, light fires, cook over a fire, make dens and shelters, and most importantly have fun! Fly Tying Basics

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

To celebrate National Volunteer Week (April 7-13) the Mead Staff and Volunteers are hosting an Open House on Saturday April 13, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Bring a Friend or bring your Family and come join us for a day of fun with kids' activities, tours, and more! Your chance to get involved with upcoming Volunteer Opportunities, and get your questions answered. We are current looking for volunteers to help us with our Greeter and Education Programs. If interested in getting involved with eitherof these programs, pleasebring your calendar.Training dates will be discussed too.

Mead Wildlife Area Center information

The Stanton W. Mead Education and Visitor Center is a 6,208 square foot education and administration facility designed as an example of sustainable and environmentally-responsible construction. One of the goals of the Mead Wildlife Area is to provide wildlife and environmental programs to the citizens of Wisconsin. Like to Hike: Hidden Bluff to Lone Pine

Meet at the Nature Center parking lot. Explore a less traveled place in Peninsula, watching for blooming leatherwood and buffaloberry. Learn how the DNR is managing ash decline from invasive Emerald Ash Borer beetle, too. Bring binoculars if you have them. Dress for the outdoors. This program is free and open to the public but a state park vehicle sticker is required. Hike counts towards earning a discount for Peninsula's exclusive Like to Hike pin.

Peninsula SP information

Considered Wisconsin's most complete park, Peninsula offers 468 campsites, three group camps, a summer theater, an 18-hole golf course, sand beach, bike trails, a lighthouse and eight miles of Door County shoreline. The rollicking waves that skip towards Peninsula's sky high bluffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment.

April Frog Hikes

Spring is here, and the frogs are calling in the Kettle Moraine State Forest-Southern Unit! Come and join the Naturalist in a series of hikes around our Nature Trails, and try your hand at identifying frog calls. Meet at the Forest Headquarters on Hwy. 59 just west of Eagle.

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Early Morning Bird Hike

This event has been cancelled due to inclement weather.

Join the naturalist to discover what birds have migrated back. We'll hike the Steinke Basin/Johnson Moraine trails to look for spring migrants. These trails are relatively flat, with small hills. The trails can be muddy in the spring, so make sure to wear boots or shoes that can get wet. Bring a pair of binoculars or borrow a pair to use on the hike. This program is best for adults and older children. Meet at the Steinke Basin Parking Lot.
