Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Join the Friends of Mirror Lake State Park at our annual Work Play Earth Day event!. Volunteers will be doing campsite improvement (raking, blowing, litter pick-up and possibly painting), trail clearing and litter pick up, and improvements at the Accessible Cabin. We may also be replacing some fire rings as well as cleaning up the amphitheater and picnic areas. Meet at 9 a.m. at the park office.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

Prairie Stewardship Volunteer Day at the Lussier Center

We need your help spring cleaning native perennial gardens, a pollinator garden, and spreading mulch on a prairie restoration site just outside of the Lussier Family Heritage Center at Lake Farm County Park. Usher in Earth Day by caring for the plants that Wisconsin's pollinators rely on! We will provide all tools including work gloves, but feel free to bring your own gloves if you'd like. Please bring drinking water. No gardening skills needed. Sign up by emailing us or just come out to the park. Groups welcome - please let us know if you are part of a group so we bring enough tools for everyone. Meet at the Lussier Family Heritage Center, 3101 Lake Farm Road, Madison, WI 53711. Capital Springs SRA information

Just minutes from downtown Madison, Capital Springs State Park and Recreation Area and Dane County's Lake Farm Park, offer many recreation opportunities, including camping, hiking and skiing trails, picnicking, fishing, and a boat launch on Lake Waubesa. The Capital City State Trail connects Capital Springs and Lake Farm Park to the city of Madison.

Location: Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit

Kettle Moraine State Forest - Pike Lake Unit is looking for volunteers to participate in a state-wide event celebrating Earth Day. Volunteers are needed to help plant trees, clean up flower beds, trail construction, pick up litter and sticks. Volunteers should wear work boots, long pants and gloves. Please bring your own shovels, litter pickers and gloves if available. A state park admission sticker is not required for volunteers. Please park at the beach parking lot and meet at the amphitheater. A gift from the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks, hotdogs and bottled water will be provided after the event.

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

The rollicking waves that skip towards Peninsula's sky high bluffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment.

Volunteers should wear work shoes/boots, long pants, gloves and bring shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows if they have them. Individual and group efforts are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Please meet at the indoor shelter in the north campground for group assignments. Noon refreshments will be provided. Park admission is free for those volunteering. Pre-registration is not required for individuals; however, we would appreciate having large groups contact us prior to April 18. Kohler-Andrae State Park in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, is the home of majestic sand dunes, miles of golden beach, shimmering blue Lake Michigan water, whispering pines, an abundance of wildlife, and recreational activities for everyone. Join the Friends of Potawatomi State Park in prepping the park for spring! Volunteers are needed to help with seasonal clean-up of the campgrounds, trails, picnic areas and playgrounds. Activities will include litter pick up, removing downed sticks and branches, blowing and raking leaves, spreading woodchips, and other maintenance activities. Water and snacks will be provided by the Friends of Potawatomi State Park. Volunteers should wear long pants, sturdy footwear, and gloves. Some hand tools will be provided, but volunteers may also bring their own shovels, rakes, and other hand tools. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the shelter building by the campground.

Potawatomi SP information

Potawatomi State Park on the shore of Sturgeon Bay in southern Door County, has 1,200 acres of gently rolling upland terrain bordered by steep slopes and rugged limestone cliffs. The park is named in honor of the tribe that inhabited Green Bay's shores and islands when Europeans first settled the area. The tribe called themselves Bo-De-Wad-Me which means "keeper of the fire." Eventually the spelling and pronunciation were changed to Potawatomi.

 The Friends of Perrot State Park will be hosting our annual Work Play Earth Day volunteer event. We are asking for help to spruce up our campground, nature center and surrounding prairies. We will be pulling brambles and woody vegetation out of our prairies, removing invasive species, cleaning campsites, picking up litter in our campground, and cleaning the inside and outside of the nature center. Volunteers should wear work shoes/boots, long pants, and bring gloves. Individuals and group efforts are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Refreshments will be provided at noon. Perrot SP information

Perrot State Park, where the Trempealeau River meets the Mississippi River, offers breathtaking views from 500-foot bluffs. The river bank and surrounding wetlands provide wonderful habitat for the many migratory birds that travel through this area twice a year. Unique to southwestern Wisconsin and Perrot are the goat prairies perched high on the bluffs.

The MacKenzie Center, just 25 miles north of Madison, is one of the most diverse education centers in Wisconsin. With interpretive trails, exhibits, museums and programming available for school and youth groups, MacKenzie is a wonderful place to visit and learn about the natural world. The State Game Farm is connected to the MacKenzie Center and is adjacent to the arboretum on the western half of the property.

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. Point Beach SF information

Point Beach State Forest features 3,000 acres of land and six miles of sandy beach along the shores of Lake Michigan. Point Beach offers family campsites, two large group cabins and an outdoor group camp. A popular feature within the property is the Rawley Point Lighthouse, which has been operated and maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard since 1853.
