Woodworking for Wildlife

Location: Sandhill Wildlife Area

Now is a great time to get ready for the return of our feathered friends. Come learn the best practices for building, cleaning, and maintaining bird houses and feeders. Bat, butterfly and toad homes will also be discussed. Leave at the end of the class with your very own handmade birdhouse or feeder. Participants will receive book with additional woodworking plans, placement and feeding tips. $25 per person, limited to 15 participants. Youth age 12 and up welcome with adult guardian. Register by March 15.


Sandhill Wildlife Area information

The 9,150-acre State Wildlife Area was named for a series of gently rolling sandy ridges crisscrossing the property. Sandhill Wildlife Area lies within the bed of ancient Glacial Lake Wisconsin - an expansive region of flat, marshy land interspersed with forests covering parts of seven counties in central Wisconsin.

Milkweed For Monarchs

This hands on workshop will be focused on preparing milkweed seeds for planting. Monarch populations have declined in recent years. Loss of habitat and reduction of milkweed plays a crucial role in their survival. You will be able to take home seeds to plant. Meets in the Nature Center, Lot 1.

Newport State Park, northeast of Ellison Bay, is Wisconsin's only formally-designated wilderness park. With 2,373 acres and 11 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, the park offers quiet alternatives to bustling Door County. Explore 30 miles of hiking trails with hike-in campsites. There are evergreen and hardwood forests, wetlands and upland meadows.

Twilight Hike

Location: Devil's Lake SP

As the sun sets and the light fades from the sky, a new group of animals awaken. We will explore the world of the crepuscular (active at dusk and dawn) and nocturnal (active at night) animals. Bring your sense of adventure as we search and listen for things that move around at twilight. We'll hike the Johnson Moraine Trail - a relatively flat trail with some dips and small hills. We'll hike 2 to 3 miles during this hike. Meet at the Steinke Basin Parking lot.


Devil's Lake SP information

Founded in 1911, Devil's Lake is the third oldest state park in Wisconsin, the largest, and the most visited. Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Enjoy lakeshore picnic areas, sandy swimming beaches, 29 miles of hiking trails, or ease into the backcountry solitude. Devil's Lake is a beautiful year-round park with an intriguing natural history along the 1,000-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

Bluebirds! Create your own Bluebird House
