Snowshoeing Adventure

Location: Mead Wildlife Area Center

Getting sick of being cooped up this winter? Bring your family, and friends and come to the Mead Wildlife Area to get outside and enjoy winter! We will take you on a short, fun hike through the property. This is great opportunity for beginners to get experience with snowshoes!

Use our snowshoes or bring your own. We have snowshoes for ages 7 to adult. Feel free to bring sleds for younger children.
If you are interested in a guided hike, there will be one starting at 10:30am and another one starting at 1:30pm.Hot cocoa in the Visitor Center to follow.

Mead Wildlife Area Center information

The Stanton W. Mead Education and Visitor Center is a 6,208 square foot education and administration facility designed as an example of sustainable and environmentally-responsible construction. One of the goals of the Mead Wildlife Area is to provide wildlife and environmental programs to the citizens of Wisconsin. These programs help to foster a sense of environmental stewardship, that through education we can achieve a better understanding of the values and issues of our wildlife and natural resources.

Sunday Snowshoe

Check out a free pair of wooden snowshoes at the Visitor Center every Sunday in February! Hikes will meet at the Visitor Center and may leave from there or, weather depending, we may explore other areas of the park. All snowshoes are available on a first come-first, first-served basis. Some child sizes also available. Park sticker required.

Interstate is Wisconsin's oldest state park, established in 1900. Located along the picturesque St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, the park provides scenic views of the river and the steep-sided gorge known as the Dalles of the St. Croix. Horicon Marsh Education Center information

Horicon Marsh has been formally recognized as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention of the United Nations. This renowned marsh is now home to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The Wildlife Education Program has been conducted at the marsh since the mid-1980s. This program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and applied management.
