Animals that are active during winter nights are specially adapted to be out in the cold. Find out who's out there while you are snug in your house and how they keep themselves warm. Take a hike on your own to find their homes and signs of their overnight activities. Drop in anytime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Endangered and Invasive Species Trivia!

Many people are not aware that the purple clovers over-running their yards are actually an invasive species, or that the beautiful blue butterfly stopping for some nectar in their garden is actually an endangered species. Come find out how aware you are of WI invasive and endangered species with our fun and educational trivia game. There will be tasty treats and prizes for participants!

Willow River SP information

With nearly 3,000 acres of prairie, forests, and panoramic river scenery, Willow River State Park offers year-round recreation opportunities in western Wisconsin. The park is about five miles northeast of Hudson, and has a campground, a boat launch and a 400-foot beach and picnic area centered on 172-acre Little Falls Lake.

Snowshoe/Hike into Fern Dell Gorge

Marty is back to guide a fun winter hike into the Fern Dell Gorge to see the ice sheets! Meet him at the park office at 10 a.m. for carpooling. This adventure will take you into Fern Dell Gorge State Natural Area where the beautiful Sandstone rock cliffs hold amazing ice sheets, conditions permitting.  So bring your camera along with your snowshoes, cleats and walking sticks. Due to limited parking we will carpool from the park office. 
REGISTRATION REQUIRED due to limited space in the gorge. RSVP to the park office (608-254-2333) to sign up for the hike.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

Valentine's Winter Hike

Harrington Beach State Park has more than a mile of beach along Lake Michigan. This 715-acre park also features a white cedar and hardwood swamp, old field grasslands with restored wetland ponds and a scenic limestone quarry lake. Camp, sunbathe, picnic, hike, bird watch, fish or practice astronomy. An observatory is open to the public for monthly viewings.

Join us for our annual winter hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing and star gazing event. Enjoy the torch-lit trail as it winds through the old orchard on the ridge. There will be bonfires, and refreshments available to warm you up. Enjoy star gazing in the crisp winter air. Telescopes and astronomy information will be presented by the Astro Educators provided by our neighbors at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. All activities will start near the park maintenance shop. 29th Annual Candlelight Ski, Hike and Snowshoe

Experience winter beauty at Newport State Park! Ski, hike or snowshoe a 1.2-mile wooded trail lit with glowing candlelight. The trail starts at the Picnic Area parking lot (Lot #3). At the end of the lit trail, participants will find the shelter building complete with an outdoor bonfire, fireplace to warm up by, and refreshments. Grills will be available for anyone who wishes to bring along the makings for a picnic supper or marshmallow roast. The event is free, but a Wisconsin State Park Vehicle Admission Sticker is required. This event will still be held as a hike/snowshoe if there is not enough snow for skiing.

Copper Falls Candlelight Ski/Snowshoe

Copper Falls SP information

Ancient lava flows, deep gorges, and spectacular waterfalls make Copper Falls one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks. Log buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s add to the park's charm. There is plenty to do; hiking, bicycling, picnicking, fishing and swimming. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through Copper Falls State Park.

Its winter, but that doesn't mean you have to stay inside! Cure your winter cabin fever and join us for this winter adventure! Go on a self-guided hike through the park by torchlight. Warm up by the woodstove in the Rock Elm shelter or by an outside campfire and make a s'more. Make sure you dress appropriately. Meet outside the Rock Elm shelter on the park's north shore. Sponsored by the Friends of Devil's Lake State Park.

Due to current trail conditions, snowshoes will not be provided for use.

Lake Kegonsa SP information

Lake Kegonsa State Park offers a natural, peaceful setting beside a glacier-hewed lake. The lake offers swimming, fishing, water-skiing, sailing and motor boating. The lake covers 3,209 acres and is more than 30 feet deep. Park visitors enjoy the lake's excellent fishing. Prairie, forest and marsh habitats offer a variety of camping, hiking, picnicking and skiing opportunities.

30th Annual Pike Lake Candlelight Ski and Hike

Hike, snowshoe or cross-country ski two 1-mile loops lit by more than 350 luminaries. Warm up at the North Shelter and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and snacks at the bonfire outside. Northern Cross Astronomy will have their telescopes out to view the crystal-clear winter sky. Pets on a leash are welcome. A vehicle admission sticker is required. Supported by the Friends of Pike Lake.

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.
