Heritage Hill's Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale Halloween Event

Come one, come all and join us at Heritage Hill for a Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale Halloween Event. Meet Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin, Puss in Boots, and Snow White, and many more. Visitors can Trick- or-Treat in a family-friendly environment and visit each area of the park to hear stories from the Brothers Grimm and play Games, like Pumpkin Plinko and candy abound throughout the park. Children and adults alike are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. Make a Halloween craft and a Brothers Grimm print! Play our traditional snap apple game, a fun twist on bobbing for apples. Special Admission Rates Apply: $7 for All Adults & Children Ages 3 and up, and Children Ages 2 and under are free. If you purchase online there is a 50 cent convenience fee will be applied. The Stanton W. Mead Education and Visitor Center is a 6,208 square foot education and administration facility designed as an example of sustainable and environmentally-responsible construction. One of the goals of the Mead Wildlife Area is to provide wildlife and environmental programs to the citizens of Wisconsin. Invasion on the Marsh and the Horicon Haunted Marsh Tour.

During Invasion on the Marsh from 6:30-8:30 p.m. families are invited to "creep it real" with their best costume as they join forces with staff to keep wicked invasives from taking over the the center's hair-raising exhibit, the Explorium. The evening's frightful festivities won't be limited just to the Explorium. Join us in making batty crafts, playing games by moonlight, and other eerie activities. Invasion on the Marsh! tours will depart at designated times. Space is limited and slots open on the day of the event will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tour participants must check in at the front counter upon arrival. While admission is free, a $5 donation per person is strongly suggested. Horicon Haunted Marsh Tour: With the help of our volunteers, the 0.8 mile Indermuehle trail will transform into the place of your spookiest nightmares. A kid-friendly "light fright" will take place 5:30-6:30 p.m., before dark. Horicon Marsh has been formally recognized as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention of the United Nations. This renowned marsh is now home to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The Wildlife Education Program has been conducted at the marsh since the mid-1980s. This program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and applied management.

"Not So Spooky" Hike

Join us for a "Not So Spooky" self-guided night hike on one of our trails lit by jack-o-lanterns and tiki-torches. Try your hand at making fall decorations or just hang out by the bonfire and roast a hot dog or marshmallow! We will have s'more-making materials on hand along with hot chocolate and hot apple cider. Bring a flashlight, if you wish, and please dress appropriately for the weather. This program will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Vehicle admission sticker is required and can be purchased at the contact station. Meet at the Nature Center.

Merrick SP information

Located along the lazy Mississippi River and surrounded by the hills of Wisconsin's Coulee Region, the 322-acre Merrick State Park is popular with anglers and boaters. The marshy backwaters are home to a variety of fish, birds, animals and plants. Rising and falling river levels, though controlled some by dams, are part of the natural environment.

Halloween Mystery Candlelight Hike

Along with the Park Staff, the Friends of Mirror Lake are hosting our annual Halloween Event. We will have an easy 1-mile torch lit trail to hike. Kids of all ages can help us find clues and discover our mystery guest - start at the beach, read the clues and try to identify the Mystery Guest you will see at the Amphitheater. There will also be an activity for the kids at the Amphitheater. The Friends will have food and beverages available for purchase, and everyone can enjoy the roaring bonfire. Meet at the beach area.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

Join us for lots of Halloween fun! There's a lot to do at this annual event sponsored by the Friends of Devil's Lake. You can go on a 1-mile torch lit hike; show off your costume by the campfire while roasting a marshmallow or two, and listen to the songs of Campfire Kevin; enjoy some tasty treats sold by the Friends group; and find out about bats! You can even make a bat to take home with you. The event is held at Chateau (North Shore Concessions).

Devil's Lake SP information

Founded in 1911, Devil's Lake is the third oldest state park in Wisconsin, the largest, and the most visited. Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Candlelight Hike

Join us for a hike along the 1.2-mile White Oak Nature Trail, which will be lit with hundreds of glowing luminaries and jack-o-lanterns. When you are finished, warm up by the bonfire and enjoy refreshments sold by the Friends of Lake Kegonsa State Park.  There is no fee for this event, but a valid park admission sticker is required for entry. Sorry, pets are not allowed on this trail.

Lake Kegonsa SP information

Lake Kegonsa State Park offers a natural, peaceful setting beside a glacier-hewed lake. The lake offers swimming, fishing, water-skiing, sailing and motor boating. The lake covers 3,209 acres and is more than 30 feet deep. Park visitors enjoy the lake's excellent fishing. Prairie, forest and marsh habitats offer a variety of camping, hiking, picnicking and skiing opportunities.

McMiller Fall Candlelight Hike

Enjoy the smell of leaves in the air and join us for a 1.1-mile hike around the seldom-hiked McMiller Trails. The trail loop will be lit by LED lights. Hike at your own time and pace. There will be a bonfire, kids crafts and activities, and snacks for sale. Pets are allowed at this event but must be on leash at all times. Meet at the McMiller Trailhead-Hwy NN, about a half mile west of Hwy 67 (South of Eagle).

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

You are invited to meet some "Cold-blooded Creatures" at this non-scary, family event. Enjoy jack-o-lanterns, Halloween nature skits, fires, games and crafts. Refreshments for sale. You may arrive anytime between 6:30 and 8 p.m. to sign up for a hike. Hikes take about a half-hour. Entire event is held outdoors, please dress accordingly. Meet at Shelter #1. $2 fee per person (ages 4+) payable at registration.

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Halloween Nature Hikes

Let's go for four on the floor! Stroll the dark autumn woods to meet those animals with four feet on the ground including as the swift-footed whitetail deer, ancient snapping turtle, secretive spotted salamander, and quick-digging star-nosed mole. This is not a scary hike and is best for those over 5 years of age. Groups leave every six minutes. The last hour-long hike leaves at 8:30 pm. While waiting for your hike, enjoy playing fun-filled games, making a craft to take home, or snacking by the glow of a campfire. In the event of severe weather, the event will be canceled for that night. Location: Mauthe Lake Recreation Area (located off County Road GGG south of County Road SS near New Prospect).

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties.
