Halloween Bonfire and Candlelight Hike

Join us for some Halloween fun for the whole family. Take a night hike on the 1.5-mile Woodland Trail - lit with luminaires! A bonfire will be at the shelter near the lake, and there will be marshmallows, hot dogs and hot chocolate while supplies last. Remember to bring a flashlight and dress for the weather. Costumes encouraged! Event is weather permitting.

Governor Nelson SP information

Located on 10,000-acre Lake Mendota, reecreation and nature mingle within sight of the State Capitol. Governor Nelson is a day use park offering a sand beach, boat launch, fish cleaning facility, picnic areas and playground equipment, prairie restorations, and over 8 miles of trails. Native American effigy mounds can be seen on the Woodland Trail.

Halloween Nature Hikes

Watch Out! The spineless wonders of nature are creeping along the trails waiting to tell their tales. Join us for a fun-filled stroll through the dark autumn woods to meet some fascinating characters including the mighty dragonfly, invading crayfish, wriggly worm, and stealthy preying mantis. This is not a scary hike and is best for those more than five years of age. Groups leave every six minutes. The last hour-long hike leaves at 8:30 pm. While waiting for your hike, enjoy playing fun-filled games, making a craft to take home, or snacking by the glow of a campfire. In the event of severe weather, the event will be canceled for that night. Sponsored by the Friends of the Kettle Moraine. Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

Seeds - They're Everywhere!

Have you ever wondered how wild plants manage to survive and propagate? This family-friendly hike will reveal some seed dispersal strategies including how they co-opt our sometimes unwitting and even unwilling help! This hour-long hike led by Naturalist Lily Bormet will start on a musical note with a song she just wrote for the occasion: "Fruit & Berries, Nuts & Seeds". Meet at Parking Lot 8 near the enclosed shelter to walk the Woodland Dunes Trail. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No pets allowed on this hike.

Citizen Water Science

Come explore the chemistry and invertebrate populations of Lake Michigan in Lakeshore State Park. We will conduct studies on phosphorus, nitrogen and dissolved oxygen content; temperature and pH; and conduct a plankton tow and invertebrate jab. Free-All Ages. Meet at the north entrance (just south of Discovery World).

Free parking is available at the park's south entrance road (access from Erie St.). It is about a 15-minute walk from the south entrance, but on the way you can take in the lovely views of the prairies throughout the park! Paid parking is available at the north entrance at O'Donnell Park.

Rock Collecting as a Hobby

Halloween Campground Walk

Traditionally campers decorate their campsites for the Halloween Holiday at High Cliff State Park. The Family Campground roads are closed to motor vehicles from 4-8 p.m. Parking is available along the road entering the campground, as well as the Horse/Bike Trail and Indian Mounds Trail lots. The Friends of High Cliff will have concessions available adjacent to campground shower building from about noon to 7 p.m. Be sure to bring your flashlights for walking in the dark! A vehicle admission sticker is required to enter the park.

High Cliff SP information

High Cliff State Park is the only state-owned recreational area on Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest lake. The park gets its name from the limestone cliff of the Niagara Escarpment, which parallels the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago. The magnificent 12-foot statue of Winnebago Indian Chief Red Bird, standing high on a huge granite rock, overlooks the lake and is a popular destination in the park.

Halloween Mystery Candlelight Hike

Along with the Park Staff, the Friends of Mirror Lake are hosting our annual Halloween Event. We will have an easy 1-mile torch lit trail to hike. Kids of all ages can help us find clues and discover our mystery guest - start at the beach, read the clues and try to identify the Mystery Guest you will see at the Amphitheater. There will also be an activity for the kids at the Amphitheater. The Friends will have food and beverages available for purchase, and everyone can enjoy the roaring bonfire. Meet at the beach area.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

"Not So Spooky" Hike

Bring a flashlight, if you wish, and please dress appropriately for the weather. Located along the lazy Mississippi River and surrounded by the hills of Wisconsin's Coulee Region, the 322-acre Merrick State Park is popular with anglers and boaters. Copper Falls Candlelight Walk

Copper Falls SP information

Ancient lava flows, deep gorges, and spectacular waterfalls make Copper Falls one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks. Log buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s add to the park's charm. There is plenty to do; hiking, bicycling, picnicking, fishing and swimming. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through Copper Falls State Park.
