Horicon Marsh Education Center information

Horicon Marsh has been formally recognized as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention of the United Nations. This renowned marsh is now home to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The Wildlife Education Program has been conducted at the marsh since the mid-1980s. This program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and applied management.

Silent Snowflakes Nature Storytime

This hour of nature fun awaits 3 to 6 year olds with accompanying adults. Meet at the Ice Age Visitor Center located at W2875 Hwy 67, Campbellsport, which is a half mile west of Dundee.

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Crex Meadows information

Crex Meadows Wildlife Area is a 30,000 acre property of wetlands, brush prairies, and forests scattered across a gently rolling landscape. It is located in western Burnett County. Find it from Highway 70 in Grantsburg. Directional signs will guide you through Grantsburg to the Crex Meadows Wildlife Education and Visitor Center, which is located on County Road D.

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Learn to Fish - Ice Fishing

The Pike Lake Sportsman Club will assist in the day's activities. This event is open to participants over the age of 10, perfect for any new or first-time anglers. Today is the start of catching a lifetime of memories! Meet at the Beach. This is a free event (no fishing license required on winter Free Fishing Weekend).

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

The park is about five miles northeast of Hudson, and has a campground, a boat launch and a 400-foot beach and picnic area centered on 172-acre Little Falls Lake.

Seasonal Scavenger Hunt

Back again this winter! Families will receive a set of clues to go on a scavenger hunt. Each family will need to work as a team as they hike along the trails to complete this challenge! Some challenges require a GPS unit (provided by the Nature Center) and make sure to bring your camera! You'll receive a small prize for completing one of the challenges. Pick up your clues at the Nature Center, then head out for an adventure!

REI Snowshoe History Hike

Outfitters from the REI Co-Op will help all the participants get geared up and ready to hike. Then follow the park Naturalist for a trek to North Point. This guided hike will focus on Pike Lake's, past, present, and future. After this afternoon in the snow, there will be hot chocolate and a bonfire at the Amphitheatre. Please help us reduce our waste by bringing along your own mug or thermos. Meet at the North Shelter.

MacKenzie Center information

The MacKenzie Center, just 25 miles north of Madison, is one of the most diverse education centers in Wisconsin. With interpretive trails, exhibits, museums and programming available for school and youth groups, MacKenzie is a wonderful place to visit and learn about the natural world. The State Game Farm is connected to the MacKenzie Center and is adjacent to the arboretum on the western half of the property.

Get Outdoors! Learn to Ice Fish

Learn the tricks of winter fishing with some experienced ice anglers. We will start inside the Mauthe Lake picnic shelter for a presentation on safety tips, and appropriate gear and tackle. Then it's off to Mauthe Lake to try our best at luring those fish out of the water. Equipment, tackle, and bait will be provided. This program is best for people over 6 years old. To register, call (920) 533-8322 by January 17. Special surprises await all who pre-register. Meet at the Mauthe Lake Recreation Area Picnic Shelter located at N1490 County Road GGG, Campbellsport, which is south of County Road SS near New Prospect. No fishing license needed as it's Free Fishing Weekend, but a Wisconsin State Park System vehicle admission sticker is required.

Learn to Ice Fish on Free Fishing Weekend

Meet on Rainbow Lake in Straight Lake State Park, located northeast of Luck. It's "Free Fishing Weekend" so no fishing license is required! The fishing holes will be drilled, jig poles rigged, bait ready, and all you have to do is dress warmly! Challenge your friends and family to catch the first fish! Park admission stickers are required for this event and will be available for sale at the park. Waterproof boots recommend! Sometimes this seepage lake develops a thin layer of water on the ice.  This event is open to everyone and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Sponsored by the Friends of Interstate Park.

Straight Lake SP information

A pristine natural area and quiet beauty are found at Straight Lake in northwest Wisconsin. This 1,800-acre park is open to foot traffic only. Lake views and glacial features provide great vistas on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail within the park. Fishing is allowed and boats may be carried in to fish.

Candlelight Hike

Hiking by candlelight, a roaring bonfire, roasted marshmallows and warm refreshments await everyone at the 10th annual Horicon Marsh Candlelight Hike. There are two trails available. One trail is 1.5 miles and another "Family Loop" is only 0.36 miles. The Education Center will be open for people to warm up, view the 20 minute "Horicon Marsh Story." The Northern Cross Science Foundation astronomers will be on site to help you view the night sky through telescopes or to talk about the stars if it is cloudy. Friends of Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center will line the trails with candle-powered luminaries to welcome and guide hikers. Admission to the event is free; however, please consider bringing a non-perishable food item or hats/gloves/mittens for our food drive and mitten campaign. Parking is limited at the education center so please consider using the shuttles. Free shuttles will be available from Mayville and Horicon from 4:30-9:30pm. The Mayville Shuttle will be located at Theiler Park, N8282 County Road TW, Mayville. The Horicon Shuttle will be located in the Bethesda parking lot at 620 Washington St, Horicon. Candlelight Snowshoe Hike

The Friends of Rib Mountain State Park invite the public to explore Rib Mountain State Park on snowshoes. There will be hot chocolate, hot cider, and special goodies, as well as marshmallows to roast around the campfire.Start your hike at the new Friends Gathering Space, just past the Park office.Some snowshoes are available to borrow but we suggest you bring your own snowshoes if you have them. Flashlights and headlamps are recommended.Donations to cover costs are welcome.A park annual or daily admission sticker is required. Parking is limited, so please consider carpooling.

Rib Mountain SP information

This billion-year-old hill is one of the oldest geological formations on earth. Rib Mountain State Park is a premier day-use facility with picnicking, hiking trails and a reservable amphitheater. The top of the 60-foot observation tower offers spectacular views of the Wausau area and Wisconsin River. Granite Peak Ski Area is on the north face of the mountain and offers downhill skiing and snowboarding during winter.

Ski or hike the 1.6-mile purple loop through the woods  illuminated by 450 candles! Bonfire and charcoal will be available if you would like to roast marshmallows or cookout. Leashed dogs are allowed on the ski trail-at this event only. State park stickers and day passes will be available for purchase when you arrive. No skate skiing and no skijoring. The Nordic Trails are on Cty. Hwy. H about 4 miles south of Palmyra and 1.5 miles north of LaGrange.

Kettle Moraine SF - Southern Unit information

More than 22,000 acres of glacial hills, kettles, lakes, prairie restoration sites, pine woods and hardwood forests can be found in the Southern Unit, making this a popular area for a wide variety of visitors. The Forest is 30 miles long, extending from the village of Dousman, almost to the city of Whitewater. The forest headquarters is 3 miles west of the village of Eagle on State Highway 59.
