Representatives of the Rhinelander / Oneida County Airport, City of Rhinelander and Oneida County had a video meeting with DNR staff on September 17, 2020. The Airport Director sent a follow-up letter dated September 29, 2020 to DNR. That letter clarified that FAA-mandated aqueous firefighting foam (AFFF) testing has routinely been conducted in a manner that contains the discharge of the very small amount of foam utilized during these tests, and that the AFFF recovered is stored indoors in totes before being sent out of state for proper disposal. The letter also confirmed that AFFF has never been utilized to fight a fire at the Airport. There has never been a documented release of PFAS-containing AFFF or other PFAS-containing material at the Airport.
