Description of Incident/General Comments |
THE RUPTURE OF THE FIRE WATER SUPPLY LINE IS BELIEVED TO HAVE OCCURRED AROUND 7:40 PM AND RESULTED IN A PRESSURE DROP WHICH CAUSED THE MAIN FIRE WATER SUPPLY PUMPS TO ENGAGE. THE PRESSURIZED WATER FROM THIS LEAK CAUSED A FORCEFUL EROSION OF THE SOIL ABOVE THE SUPPLY LINE AND ALSO RESULTED IN THE FRACTURING OF THE PAVEMENT ABOVE THE WATER LINE LEAK. WATER FROM THIS LINE THEN BEGAN TO FLOW UPWARD AND ONTO THE PAVED AREA. ALMOST ALL THE WATER WAS CONTAINED ON SITE DUE FLOOD PREVENTION DEVICES SUCH AS SANDBAGS ALREADY HAVING BEEN OUT ON SITE, COVERING STORM DRAINS AND OUTFALL LOCATIONS. HOWEVER, AN ESTIMATED 50-250 GALLONS OF THIS WATER ENTERED A STORM SEWER WHICH DISCHARGES TO THE MENOMINEE RIVER. SAMPLES OF STANDING WATER WERE COLLECTED TO PROFILE RELEASE. CLEAN HARBORS WAS CONTRACTED TO PERFORM CLEAN UP. WATER WAS PUMPED INTO FRAC TANKS AND SENT FOR DEEP WELL INJECTION. CONCRETE AREA WAS PRESSURE WASHED AND SCRUBBED. CLEAN HARBORS FINISHED WORK 2020/08/03. REPAIRS TO BURST PIPE WERE MADE.
2020/07/28: REIF CONDUCTED SITE VISIT. REMAINING WATER ON SITE WAS CONTAINED AND CLEAN UP WAS UNDERWAY. SUMMARY AND PHOTOS IN FILE.
2020/08/26: WASTEWATER PROGRAM ISSUED NON.
2020/09/09: DOCUMENTATION OF DISPOSAL RECEIVED. CLEAN UP DONE TO EXTENT PRACTICABLE.
