Afterhours Trails

Trails are groomed for skate and classic cross-country skiing and were groomed (corduroy/levelled) on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 8:30 PM

Comments: Trails have been groomed and tracked for our annual River View Loppet Race as of Friday night in preparation for Saturday's event. Some left over barrier flags may still be present after the race event concludes in the afternoon on Saturday. These can be bypassed or broken after the event and will be cleaned up in the next few days. Conditions are excellent with a base of 5-6 inches and skate decks are considerably smoother after this last grooming effort.

Copper Falls State Park Trails

Trails are groomed for skate and classic cross-country skiing and were groomed (corduroy/levelled) on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 4:00 PM

Comments: All skate/classic combination trails are in excellent condition with firm deck and tracks, featuring a base of 7-10in. At this time the localís favorite, the Pipeline Loop, is not a completed loop due to logging occurring by the Ballfield Lot. However it makes a fantastic two-way trail that goes double the distance with fun rolling scenic terrain on the west side great for the average skier and big hills on the east side for those looking to get some hill workouts. Pipeline West ends by the winter campsites and Pipeline East ends just as it goes into the pine forest. Red Granite (skate/snowshoe loop) is very good but still has some irregular spots due to being a multi-use trail seeing high snowshoe usage. The east-half of Vahtera was tracked, accessible through Pipeline East from the Office Lot. Takesson was re-tracked; accessible from the Loon Lake lot through Pipeline West. Sections that remain closed at this time include a 2km section of Pipeline East by the Ballfield/Purple Lots and the west-half of Vahtera for visitor safety while logging operations continue. We hope to reopen these popular sections around January 21st.

Cross-country ski trails

Get Outdoors and go skiing!

Wisconsin's state parks and forests take on a special beauty during winter. Enjoy the winter scenery, get healthy exercise and have some fun by cross-country skiing on hundreds of miles of trails. Some trails are tracked for traditional skiing, some groomed for skate-style skiing and many are wide enough to accommodate both styles. There are also numerous miles of ungroomed trail for skiers to explore.

State Trail Pass

Most properties require a vehicle admission sticker to park at the property. Several properties also require a state trail pass for all skiers age 16 and older. These fees go directly to support the operation of the Wisconsin State Park System.

Groomed Trails

Wisconsin's state park trails are maintained by department staff and volunteer groomers. Ski trail conditions are subject to change and may be closed if snow conditions are poor. Click on the link for the property where you are interested in skiing for more information.

Hiking, snowshoeing and pets

To keep ski trails in the best condition possible, once the trails are snow-covered, hiking, snowshoeing, pets and other uses are not permitted on the ski trails. Other property trails are designated for these uses. Skijoring and dog-sledding are also not allowed on groomed ski trails. For more information about these activities on DNR lands, see:
