MECCA trails

Trails are groomed for skate and classic cross-country skiing and were tracked on Friday, January 10, 2020 at 11:00 AM

Comments: The trail was groomed Friday night for the weekend. The deck should be very firm with the cold temps Saturday morning. Track was reset with the renovators and is nice and deep, so should hold up for all the racers on their way home from the SISU to get a good cool down ski on their way home. See you on the trail! Spruce Hills and the Homestead trail have been widened out for the race in February but will continued to be tracked best line classical until then. The snowshoe trail is packed and in great condition also. We do allow snowshoe travel on the groomed ski trail, but ask that you stay to the edge away from the track. Under no circumstance is walking without snowshoes allowed. Trails are on rolling glacial terrain through pine, spruce and tamarack forests. A heated chalet with a vault toilet, wax bench, and changing room is located at the Cabin trailhead. There is a second trailhead at the Little Turtle Flowage parking lot.

Trails are groomed for skate and classic cross-country skiing and were groomed (corduroy/levelled) on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 1:00 PM

Comments: After the last two smalls snows, i made it out to groom today to mix in the fresh snow with the old base. The intention was to fill in the ruts and holes and it worked out great with the exception of only a couple small spots on the Rim Creek loop that still have some small ruts. Everything was cut twice today and widened to bring in as much snow as possible. Forecast says more snow is on the way for friday and saturday. The plan is to groom again sunday morning after the snow and high winds that are in the forecast have stopped. Trails are in great shape today! Take advantage of it if you can before the snow storm.

McMiller trails

Trails are groomed for skate and classic cross-country skiing and were tracked on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 9:00 PM

Comments: 6 inches of moist snow fell on the evening of 1/17/2020 into 1/18/2020. A 2" base was created with some deeper areas due to drifting. Track was laid throughout the McMiller system, with double track set on the RED and ORANGE loops. Watch out for fast conditions as freezing rain was prevalent while the track was created. Corduroy was double packed, but was quickly filled in with blowing snow/sleet. **UPDATE** all skating lanes were repacked on the evening of 1/19/20 in anticipation of a subzero temperature trend. Sunday should be a great day at McMiller!

Cross-country ski trails

Get Outdoors and go skiing!

Wisconsin's state parks and forests take on a special beauty during winter. Enjoy the winter scenery, get healthy exercise and have some fun by cross-country skiing on hundreds of miles of trails. Some trails are tracked for traditional skiing, some groomed for skate-style skiing and many are wide enough to accommodate both styles. There are also numerous miles of ungroomed trail for skiers to explore.

State Trail Pass

Most properties require a vehicle admission sticker to park at the property. Several properties also require a state trail pass for all skiers age 16 and older. These fees go directly to support the operation of the Wisconsin State Park System.

Groomed Trails

Wisconsin's state park trails are maintained by department staff and volunteer groomers. Ski trail conditions are subject to change and may be closed if snow conditions are poor. Click on the link for the property where you are interested in skiing for more information.

Hiking, snowshoeing and pets

To keep ski trails in the best condition possible, once the trails are snow-covered, hiking, snowshoeing, pets and other uses are not permitted on the ski trails. Other property trails are designated for these uses. Skijoring and dog-sledding are also not allowed on groomed ski trails. For more information about these activities on DNR lands, see:
