Open house on the draft master plans for properties located in three Northwest Wisconsin Ecological Landscapes: Superior Coastal Plain, Northwest Sands, and Northwest Lowlands

Detailed information: The three landscapes, Superior Coastal Plain, Northwest Sands, and Northwest Lowlands, fall in portions of Polk, Burnett, Washburn, Sawyer, Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, and Iron Counties and include approximately 30,000 acres of DNR-managed lands. Master plans establish the level and type of resource management and public use permitted on department-managed properties.  These lands contain a wide-variety of habitats and characteristics. These attributes and include the Apostle Islands and Lake Superior coastal estuaries, cold water streams and spring ponds, and barrens. The properties in these ecological landscapes are also important in providing recreation opportunity. The popular Copper Falls, Big Bay, Pattison, and Amnicon Falls State Parks will all have master plans developed. Attendees will have an opportunity to review copies of the draft master plans, discuss the plans with department staff, and submit comments.
Comments may also be submitted online through a form found on the DNR master planning web page for each draft plan. Additionally, comments may be sent to Phil Rynish, by mail at Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources, 101 S. Webster Street - LF/6 Madison WI 53707, via email at Phillip.Rynish@wisconsin.gov. An additional open house will be held Dec. 17 in Spooner.

Detailed information: The public will have an opportunity to review and comment on the draft Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan document. The plan provides guidance to public outdoor recreation policy and planning decisions and is used in allocating recreation-related grants administered by the Department of Natural Resources.  This SCORP covers the period from 2019 to 2023. In addition to the open house, people can also comment on the plan through a public input form on the SCORP page of the DNR website.  People can provide input on an online questionnaire, or can download a form and mail it in. Comments, either online or hardcopy, are due by Jan. 4, 2019.
