The department will hold a public meeting on a proposed regulation change for Lake Menomin. The proposed fishing regulation change would remove the special regulation of a daily bag limit of 5 walleye over 15 inches in length and replace it with the standard Ceded Territory walleye regulation of 3 walleye over 15 inches but walleye from 20-24 inches may not be kept and only one may be over 24 inches in length.

Several people expressed concerns about the change and have requested a public meeting to discuss the proposal. The DNR will host a virtual meeting to provide information and an opportunity to comment on the proposed fishing rule change.

Contaminated Sediments External Advisory Group

Detailed information: The DNR identified working together in a collaborative manner as one of the core values of the agency. In an effort to develop a unified approach to address issues associated with the investigation, management and remediation of contaminated sediments in waters of the state, the DNR is workingwith the Contaminated Sediments External Advisory Group (CSAEG) to solicit feedback to improve how we collectively work together on these types of projects. This is the second of two meetings for providing feedback on ideas for calculating financial assurance when engineering controls are required to address contaminated sediment left in place. Scenarios and the factors used to estimate financial assurance costs will be discussed. Links to the permanent and emergency rules can be found on the NR 700 Rule Changes page.

The DNR will host a virtual public meeting to gather public input on issues and concerns that people may be experiencing with the current White-tailed deer hunting season. This public input will be shared with the Deer Stakeholder Committee convened by the DNR to make recommendations for the deer hunting season.

The committee has been at work since early October 2020 and has been tasked with the following goal and objectives.

Goal: Identify a deer hunting framework and potential programs to accomplish the following objectives.
Objective 1: Address concerns and areas of conflict expressed by the snowmobiling, forestry, and agriculture communities.
Objective 2: Provide deer hunting opportunities that are easy to understand and will support hunter recruitment, retention and reactivation.
Objective 3: Provide the best available tools to achieve population objectives and reduce the number percent of deer with Chronic Wasting Disease.
