Bees and Bee Keeping

Location: Kohler-Andrae SP

In observance of National Pollinators Week, we welcome Dan Pitsch who has been beekeeping for five years and is a member of the Sheboygan County Beekeepers Association. Dan will discuss all aspects of honey bees and their key role as major pollinators. He will also talk about beehives, the beekeepers job, processing honey and the products from the hives. Hands-on activities will include sampling comb honey, observing a hive - don't worry, the bees will be in a secure windowed container. There will be pictures for the kids to color as well as handouts for the adults. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the park amphitheater. In the event of inclement weather, this presentation will move to Sanderling Nature Center. No pets allowed.

Kohler-Andrae State Park in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, is the home of majestic sand dunes, miles of golden beach, shimmering blue Lake Michigan water, whispering pines, an abundance of wildlife, and recreational activities for everyone. Kohler-Andrae State Park is one of the last natural preserves along the Lake Michigan shore, and is open for everyone to explore and enjoy.
