Candlelight Snowshoe Hike

Time: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Location: MacKenzie Center

Come join us at the MacKenzie Center for a fun Friday night of hiking and snowshoeing. A limited number of snowshoes are available to borrow, or you can bring your own! The illuminated trail begins at the Lodge and continues through the trail system. The Lodge will be open to warm up, grab some hot chocolate, or use the restroom. Please park in the lodge parking lot and dress warm!

MacKenzie Center information

The MacKenzie Center, just 25 miles north of Madison, is one of the most diverse education centers in Wisconsin. With interpretive trails, exhibits, museums and programming available for school and youth groups, MacKenzie is a wonderful place to visit and learn about the natural world. The State Game Farm is connected to the MacKenzie Center and is adjacent to the arboretum on the western half of the property.

Candlelight ski, hike and snowshoe

Location: Hartman Creek SP

Glowing luminaries will light your way as you ski, snowshoe, or hike through Hartman Creek State Park on a beautiful winter night. This is winter fun for the whole family! Event is free, however all vehicles must have a valid park admission sticker. This event is perfect for novices or experts.

Adventure Outfitters will be there renting snowshoes for only $5. You can cross-country ski on stunning groomed trails. There will be plenty of ways to stay warm - cozy up to the bonfire, enjoy free hot cocoa, spiced apple cider, and other tasty goodies, or bring a brat or burger to cook over the large grill. Try your hand at Hammerschlagen - two tries for just $1. You can also pick up your annual ski, bike or horse trail passes while you are here ($25). This event is sponsored by the Friends of Hartman Creek State Park.

Camping, recreation opportunities, the Hellstad House Log Cabin, Whispering Pines day use area, and seven lakes with crystal clear waters make Hartman Creek a popular destination in central Wisconsin.

Urban Candlelight Hike

For the fourth year in a row, hardy northerners will cure their cabin fever at this winter's 2-mile Urban Candlelight Hike on the Hank Aaron State Trail in Three Bridges Park. This event will take place with or without snow. Warm up and make s'mores by a campfire after your hike by visiting the Friends of Hank Aaron at the Urban Ecology Center (Menomonee Valley) back patio, or stop inside UEC for some hot chocolate while supplies last. Additional winter-themed activities and demonstrations will be put on by neighboring establishments as well.Street parking will be available along Pierce St and36th-39th Streets. You can also park along Canal St and cross the Valley Passage Bridge (approx. address of bridge is 3700 W Canal St). Hank Aaron ST information

Named in honor of baseball legend Hank Aaron, this trail provides a continuous connection between Milwaukee's Miller Park Stadium and the Lake Michigan lakefront, as well as providing connections to famous Milwaukee landmarks such as the historic Ward Theatre on the grounds of the National Soldiers Home, the Wisconsin State Fair Park and the Pettit National Ice Center. Eventually the trail will connect with the Oak Leaf Trail near the Milwaukee/Waukesha county line and run along the southern edge of the Milwaukee County Zoo.

Leap Day Candlelight Snowshoe and Hike

Leap into winter fun! Council Grounds State Park will be holding a candlelight snowshoe and hike from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020 (Leap Day). Over 2 miles of our winding Northwest Trail will be lined with luminaries. A warming fire and light refreshments will be in the group camp. Flashlights are recommended. An annual or daily Wisconsin State Park sticker is required. Parking is limited, please consider carpooling.

Council Grounds SP information

Native American encampments once occupied the site of Council Grounds State Park. Located along the Wisconsin River and Lake Alexander, this park is a favorite for water enthusiasts. This 508-acre park also offers camping, hiking, hunting and fishing opportunities.

Candlelight Hike

Location: Big Foot Beach SP

Join us for a candlelight hike through the paths of Big Foot Beach State Park. Hot Chocolate & Hot Apple Cider will be served, along with beautiful views! Bonfire to follow hike, weather permitting. A current Wisconsin State Park annual sticker or a $5 Special Event stickers are required. There is a possibility we will fill all parking spots. Carpooling is encouraged. Parking for cars and pickup trucks only - no trailers, bus or RV parking. There is no roadside parking in the surrounding area. All cars attempting to enter after our parking capacity has been met (200 cars) will be turned away, please carpool.

Big Foot Beach SP information

This 271-acre park on the shore of Geneva Lake offers wooded campsites, a sand beach, 6.5 miles of hiking trails, and picnic areas. No alcoholic beverages are allowed anywhere in the park.

Bring family and friends to this special self-guided candlelight hike. Hike starts and ends at the enclosed shelter and includes the marsh area to listen to the music of the frogs and toads. Chris Lilek will entertain around the campfire. Great family event; children must be accompanied by an adult. Pets are not allowed. Parking available in Lot 7

Summer Candlelight Hike

Annual self-guided hike along a marked trail illuminated by tiki torches. Park at Sanderling Nature Center Lot P3 or North Beach Lot P2. No pets or strollers allowed on the hike. Snacks and refreshments will be available at Sanderling Nature Center.
