Location: Whitefish Dunes SP

Join the Friends of Whitefish Dunes State Park for the annual candlelight event. Ski, hike or snowshoe along a wooded trail lit with luminaries. Stop by the shelter to warm up by the fire; hot beverages and snacks will be available. State Park admission stickers required. Please leave your pet at home. Contact the park for more information. The event is weather dependent, and will be canceled for poor or unsafe conditions.

Whitefish Dunes SP information

Whitefish Dunes State Park protects the fragile dune environment on the eastern Door County Peninsula. Stroll along Lake Michigan, watch waterfowl at Clark Lake, use the boardwalk to discover the wetlands or relax on one of the many trails throughout the forested sand dunes and beech forest. The park's nature center features year-round programs, exhibits and displays on ecology, geology and human history. Whitefish Dunes is a day-use park, there is no camping.

The Friends of Point Beach State Forest will again be sponsoring the annual candlelight ski/hike. Ski or hike a 1-mile candlelit trail through the forest. Afterwards, enjoy the warm fire in the Lodge where food and refreshments will be available for sale.

Point Beach SF information

Point Beach State Forest features 3,000 acres of land and six miles of sandy beach along the shores of Lake Michigan. Point Beach offers family campsites, two large group cabins and an outdoor group camp. A popular feature within the property is the Rawley Point Lighthouse, which has been operated and maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard since 1853.

Enjoy about 4 miles of luminaries lighting the way from Soo Line Park in Amery west to County Highway C. Please pack a headlight if traveling farther. The ski-snowshoe-hike starts at 5:30 p.m. and the fat bike starts at 6:30 p.m.

Stower Seven Lakes ST information

Built on a former railroad corridor, this 14-mile trail begins in Amery at Harriman Avenue, travels through the communities of Deronda, Wanderoos and Nye, ending about one mile from Dresser at 90th Avenue. The trail passes through maple and oak forests, wetlands, prairies and farmlands, and past many picturesque lakes. The trail crosses between the North Twin and South Twin lakes in Amery, skirts the south end of Bear Trap Lake, the north end of Kinney lake, and runs along Dwight, Horse and Lotus lakes near the western end.

Friends of Lapham Peak Annual Candlelight Ski/Hike

The Friends of Lapham Peak will host the annual Candlelight Ski/Hike at the Homestead Hollow Picnic Area. In addition to a 2020 Wis. State Park annual vehicle admission sticker or a $5 Special Event vehicle admission fee, a ticket voucher (free) is required for each vehicle that wishes to attend the event. Vouchers are available first-come, first-served. Limit one per person at time of pickup. Vouchers may be picked up at the Lapham Peak office starting Jan. 4 and prior to 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020 in order to ensure access to the event. Office hours are generally open from 11 a.m. - 5:45 p.m. Carpooling is encouraged. Please call ahead at 262-646-3025 to ensure vouchers are still available. Ticket vouchers specify the admission time and presented at the gate for access. Entrants should arrive during the time frame specified.  After skiing/hiking/snowshoeing...Warm yourself by the bonfire; Bring your own food and grill outside; Enjoy treats available for a donation in Trecker Lodge. Kettle Moraine SF - Lapham Peak Unit information

The Kettle Moraine and Lapham Peak were formed 10,000 years ago when a glacier covered much of Wisconsin. Lapham Peak's glaciated topography provides excellent hiking, backpacking, and cross-country skiing on lighted trails. Climb a 45-foot observation tower atop the highest point in Waukesha County (1,233 feet above sea level).

Annual Candlelight Ski and Hike

Location: Red Cedar ST

Cross-country ski the candlelit Red Cedar State Trail from the Depot to the lit ice wall. Snowshoe the candlelit trail in Riverside Park. Hike the candlelit Junction City Trail. All activities start at the Red Cedar State Trail Depot, Highway 29 West. Ski rentals will be available in advance from Stout Adventures and Simple Sports. Snowshoes are provided free at the event by Mayo Clinic.

After skiing, walking, or snowshoeing, warm up with a cup of hot chocolate provided by Swiss Miss and cookies provided by Kwik Trip around the glowing bonfire. It's a fun time for the whole family to experience the joys of winter!

Red Cedar ST information

This 14.5-mile rail trail shadows the steep walls of the Red Cedar Valley from Menomonie to its connection with the Chippewa River State Trail. Along its route, the trail passes through the communities of Irvington and Downsville and the Dunnville State Wildlife Area. The trail passes by prairies, marshland bottoms, forests and farmlands, including sandstone bluffs and other unique rock formations. In the Dunnville Wildlife Area, the Red Cedar trail connects to the Chippewa River State Trail.

OutWiGo Snow

Let it snow, let it snow, OutWiGo! Launch into 2020 with Wisconsin State Parks at an OutWiGo Snow! winter recreation celebration at Willow River State Park in Hudson on Saturday, Feb. 1. Round up family and friends for an active afternoon of winter hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, campfire cooking, s'mores and more! Participants of all ages are welcome. A $5 admission fee applies to participants ages 18 and older, cash only. Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission sticker or day pass required.

Willow River SP information

With nearly 3,000 acres of prairie, forests, and panoramic river scenery, Willow River State Park offers year-round recreation opportunities in western Wisconsin. The park is about five miles northeast of Hudson, and has a campground, a boat launch and a 400-foot beach and picnic area centered on 172-acre Little Falls Lake.

Learn To Ski at the Afterhours Ski Trail

January 12 and February 1 are Learn to Ski Days at the Afterhours Ski Trail. The events start at 12:30 p.m. at the Ski Trail Trailhead. Free cross-country ski lessons for both children and adults in both the classic and skate styles will be offered.

Ski rental equipment will be available until 3 p.m., but only for those who pre-register and are present to check out equipment at noon. The cost for rental skis, boots, and poles is $5 for children 12 and younger and $15 for others. Pre-register by 7 p.m. January 9 for the January 12 lesson or by January 30 for the February1 lesson. For each person renting ski equipment: provide name, whether classic or skate-style equipment is desired, shoe size, whether the shoe size is a child or adult size, sex, age, and approximate height and weight. Please also leave your name and telephone number. The afternoon of family fun is sponsored by the Brule Valley Ski Club, the Brule River State Forest and the Brule Lions Club.

Enjoy a 1-mile loop through forest and meadow with hundreds of candles lining the trail. Following the ski or hike, participants can enjoy a bonfire with refreshments in the warming shelter. Co-sponsored by the Friends of Peninsula State Park. Pets are not allowed at the event. Event will be cancelled if weather is severe. A state park vehicle admission sticker is required and can be purchased at the park headquarters or self-registration station. A trail pass is not required for this event. The rollicking waves that skip towards Peninsula's sky high bluffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment.

Cross-country ski or hike in the Kettle Moraine State Forest-Northern Unit by candlelight. This year's event will take place at Zillmer Trail Area (located at W833 County Road SS, Campbellsport between County Road G and Hwy 67 near New Prospect). The trail is perfect for novice skiers with no steep hills or sharp turns.

The shelter building will be open, lit and heated. At the bonfire join fellow hikers and skiers for hot drinks and snacks provided by the Friends of the Kettle Moraine. Trail passes waived for event participants, but state park vehicle admission stickers are required.

Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Blue Mound Candlelight Ski, Hike and Snowshoe

Join us for our annual February winter candlelight ski, hike and snowshoe event sponsored by the Friends of Blue Mound State Park. Free hot chocolate, hot cider and marshmallows will be provided. A 1 or 2 mile loop for skiing will be lit with hundreds or glowing luminaries, and a 3/4 mile snowshoe or hike trail. Warm up inside the heated "Friends Shelter" or around the bonfire. Naturalist hikes will be at 6 and 7 p.m.

There is no fee for this event, but a valid park admission sticker is required. Sorry, no pets, hiking or snowshoeing are allowed on groomed ski trails. This event is weather and snow conditions permitting. Contact the park at 608-437-5711 for updated event information.

Join forest staff and the Black River Forest Trail Foundation for a night of skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and fun! A 1.5-mile ski trail and a 1-mile snowshoe/hiking trail will be lit with candle luminaries. Warm up around a large bonfire or in the heated shelter. Hot chocolate and hot dogs will be available for purchase.

A raffle will be held with great prizes! Meet at the Smrekar shelter located 4 miles east of Millston off County Road O. This event will still be held as a hike/snowshoe if there is not enough snow for skiing. Sponsored by the Black River Forest Trail Foundation.

28th Annual Flambeau River Candlelight Ski and Hike

Get outside this winter and enjoy lighted trails at the Flambeau River State Forest. A 1.8 kilometer loop of the Flambeau Hills Trail will be groomed, tracked and lit with more than 600 candles. The trail winds through the heart of the forest and is wide enough for diagonal striders and skate skiers. Hiking and snowshoeing are also permitted on the trail during this event. Picnic tables and a large grill will be available, with refreshments/snacks provided. There will also be large warming fires maintained throughout the night. Trail pass fees are waived during the event. This event will take place regardless of snow conditions - if there is no snow, take a candlelight walk. Photo by Jim Kuchler. Flambeau River SF information

The forest offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Canoeing is the most popular activity on the forest. Different portions of the river offer varying degrees of difficulty. The North Fork is ideal for the novice, while South Fork is for the advanced paddler. Musky, sturgeon, trout, walleye, bass and panfish can be caught from the river as well as the lakes in the forest. The forest is open to public hunting for bear, waterfowl, deer and grouse, just to name a few.

Copper Falls SP information

Ancient lava flows, deep gorges, and spectacular waterfalls make Copper Falls one of Wisconsin's most scenic parks. Log buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s add to the park's charm. There is plenty to do; hiking, bicycling, picnicking, fishing and swimming. The North Country National Scenic Trail passes through Copper Falls State Park.

Annual Candlelight Ski, Hike and Snowshoe

Experience winter beauty at Newport State Park! Ski, hike or snowshoe a 1.2-mile wooded trail lit with glowing candlelight. The trail starts at the Picnic Area parking lot (Lot #3). At the end of the lit trail, participants will find the shelter building complete with an outdoor bonfire, fireplace to warm up by, and refreshments. Grills will be available for anyone who wishes to bring along the makings for a picnic supper or marshmallow roast. The event is free, but a Wisconsin State Park Vehicle Admission Sticker is required. This event will still be held as a hike/snowshoe if there is not enough snow for skiing.
