Enjoy a fall evening hike overlooking the river valley. Dress for the weather, the short illuminated trail will begin at the Peterson Shelter. Torches will be lit at 6 p.m.

Wyalusing SP information

At Wyalusing State Park, camp 500 feet above the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers. One of Wisconsin's oldest state parks, Wyalusing features family and group camps, hiking trails, a canoe trail, Native American burial mounds, bird watching, fishing, boating, bicycling, and picnicking near several scenic overlooks of the river valleys below.

Fall Night Hike

Harrington Beach SP information

Harrington Beach State Park has more than a mile of beach along Lake Michigan. This 715-acre park also features a white cedar and hardwood swamp, old field grasslands with restored wetland ponds and a scenic limestone quarry lake. Camp, sunbathe, picnic, hike, bird watch, fish or practice astronomy. An observatory is open to the public for monthly viewings.

October Illuminated Night Hike

Location: Big Foot Beach SP

Put on your favorite Halloween Costume, and join us for a lighted night hike through the paths of Big Foot Beach State Park. Treats & Drinks will be served, along with beautiful views! Bonfire to follow hike, weather permitting. Candlelight events are very popular at DNR properties, with some attracting thousands of visitors on a given night. Given the recent publicity of these events access to the park may be restricted at times when parking capacity has been reached. Parking inside the park is limited! The park has a total of 180 parking stalls; at this time there is a lot of interest in the event. There is a possibility we will fill all spots. Carpooling is encouraged. Parking for cars and pickup trucks only - no trailers, bus or RV parking. There is no roadside parking in the surrounding area. A 2019 Wisconsin State Park annual sticker or a $5 Special Event stickers are required. All cars attempting to enter after our parking capacity has been met (200 cars) will be turned away, please carpool. Halloween costumes are not required, but there will be a "best costume" prize after the hike! This is some fun, non-scary Halloween fun for the whole family! *Donations welcome (to support the Friends of Big Foot Beach State Park).

This 271-acre park on the shore of Geneva Lake offers wooded campsites, a sand beach, 6.5 miles of hiking trails, and picnic areas. No alcoholic beverages are allowed anywhere in the park.

"Not So Spooky" Hike

Join us for a "Not So Spooky" self-guided night hike on one of our trails lit by jack-o-lanterns and tiki-torches. Try your hand at making fall decorations or just hang out by the bonfire and roast a hot dog or marshmallow! We will have s'more-making materials on hand along with hot chocolate and hot apple cider. Bring a flashlight, if you wish, and please dress appropriately for the weather. This program will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Vehicle admission sticker is required and can be purchased at the contact station. Meet at the Nature Center.

Merrick SP information

Located along the lazy Mississippi River and surrounded by the hills of Wisconsin's Coulee Region, the 322-acre Merrick State Park is popular with anglers and boaters. The marshy backwaters are home to a variety of fish, birds, animals and plants. Rising and falling river levels, though controlled some by dams, are part of the natural environment.

Halloween Mystery Torchlight Hike

Along with the Park Staff, the Friends of Mirror Lake are hosting our annual Halloween Event. We will have an easy 1-mile torch lit trail to hike. Kids of all ages can help us find clues and discover our mystery guest - start at the beach, read the clues and try to identify the Mystery Guest you will see at the Amphitheater. There will also be an activity for the kids at the Amphitheater. The Friends will have food and beverages available for purchase, and everyone can enjoy the roaring bonfire. Meet at the beach area.

Join us for lots of Halloween fun! There's a lot to do at this annual event sponsored by the Friends of Devil's Lake. You can go on a 1-mile torch lit hike; show off your costume by the campfire while roasting a marshmallow or two and listen to the songs of Campfire Kevin; enjoy some tasty treats sold by the Friends group; and find out about spiders! You can even make some spider crafts to take home with you. The event is held at Chateau (North Shore Concessions).

Devil's Lake SP information

Founded in 1911, Devil's Lake is the third oldest state park in Wisconsin, the largest, and the most visited. Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Enjoy lakeshore picnic areas, sandy swimming beaches, 29 miles of hiking trails, or ease into the backcountry solitude. Devil's Lake is a beautiful year-round park with an intriguing natural history along the 1,000-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

MacKenzie Center information

The MacKenzie Center, just 25 miles north of Madison, is one of the most diverse education centers in Wisconsin. With interpretive trails, exhibits, museums and programming available for school and youth groups, MacKenzie is a wonderful place to visit and learn about the natural world. The State Game Farm is connected to the MacKenzie Center and is adjacent to the arboretum on the western half of the property.

Candlelight Hike

Location: Horicon Marsh Education Center

Hiking by candlelight, a roaring bonfire, roasted marshmallows and warm refreshments await everyone at the 10th annual Horicon Marsh Candlelight Hike. There are two trails available. One trail is 1.5 miles and another "Family Loop" is only 0.36 miles. The Education Center will be open for people to warm up, view the 20 minute "Horicon Marsh Story." The Northern Cross Science Foundation astronomers will be on site to help you view the night sky through telescopes or to talk about the stars if it is cloudy. Friends of Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center will line the trails with candle-powered luminaries to welcome and guide hikers. Admission to the event is free; however, please consider bringing a non-perishable food item or hats/gloves/mittens for our food drive and mitten campaign. Parking is limited at the education center so please consider using the shuttles. Free shuttles will be available from Mayville and Horicon from 4:30-9:30pm. The Mayville Shuttle will be located at Theiler Park, N8282 County Road TW, Mayville. The Horicon Shuttle will be located in the Bethesda parking lot at 620 Washington St, Horicon. Horicon Marsh Education Center information

Horicon Marsh has been formally recognized as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention of the United Nations. This renowned marsh is now home to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The Wildlife Education Program has been conducted at the marsh since the mid-1980s. This program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and applied management.

Winterfest and Candlelight Hike

Enjoy a winter night at Pattison State Park! Glowing luminaries will line your path for classic skiing and hiking/snowshoeing and there will also be a sledding hill. The Friends of Pattison and Amnicon Falls will be providing crafts in the Historic CCC Shelter Building where there will be two giant fireplaces for warming up by and a place to cook hot dogs or marshmallows for s'more's. The Friends will provide all the supplies for s'mores, plus chili, hot cocoa, cookies and coffee. This event is for the whole family!  A vehicle admission sticker will be required.

Pattison SP information

Pattison State Park features the highest waterfalls in Wisconsin and the fourth highest waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. Big Manitou Falls is 165 feet high, and Twin Little Manitou Falls is 31 feet high. This 1,436-acre park also has a lake with a beach, a nature center, camping, nine miles of hiking trails and abundant wildlife.

Gov. Thompson Candlelight Ski and Hike

Join us for an evening of candlelit recreation! The park and trails will be lit by more than 800 candle luminaries and accented with ice sculptures. Skiers can take an easy 1-mile loop candlelit trail groomed for both classic (diagonal striding) and skate skiing as it weaves through the woods. Non-skiers are welcome to hike another 1-mile candlelit trail with scenic views over Woods Lake. Hikers, snowshoers and pets are not allowed on the ski trail, but are welcome on the hiking trail. Warming fires and hot chocolate will be available for everyone in the Woods Lake Shelter. Vehicle admission (park sticker) is required and can be purchased at the park office the day of the event. Trails start at the Woods Lake Picnic Area off of Paust Lane, 1.5 miles west of Parkway Road off Ranch Rd.

Governor Thompson SP information

Governor Thompson State Park was established in 2000, the Wisconsin State Park System's centennial year. With more than 2,800 acres of woods, a family campground, picnic area on Woods Lake, skiing and hiking trails, and six miles of shoreline on the Caldron Falls Flowage, visitors will find an atmosphere that is perfect for solitude, reflection, and recreation.
