Job Description: 40% Develop new interpretive and outdoor education programs and improve existing programs for use at the Horicon Marsh International Education Center. Programs include both indoor and outdoor hands-on activities and A/V presentations and will be developed for specific audiences including the general public, elementary and middle school students. Programs will focus on the property's natural features, flora, wildlife, and management issues. 25% Organize a volunteer naturalist program and train volunteers to assist in conducting education programs for organized school field trips and outdoor education programs. 15% Develop indoor displays and education program brochures and pamphlets for the Education Center to provide public information and increase participation in education programs and events. 10% Develop and improve hands-on displays for the Children's Discovery Room at the Education Center. 10% Develop programs and materials for teacher workshops and educator training. Work with the Project Wild coordinator and other similar programs to host workshops at the Education Center.
A working knowledge of general principles of general ecology, wildlife ecology and wildlife management; use of wildlife and habitat monitoring procedures and field equipment; childhood development and learning theories, lesson plan and curriculum development; knowledge of major environmental educational program approaches (Project Wild, Project WET, Flying WILD, etc.); outdoor education teaching techniques and principles of outdoor interpretation; word processing, spreadsheet/data management and communication software programs including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint; publication layout and design, graphic design, and use of standard graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign/ Photoshop/Illustrator; ability to work independently, be a team player, and be a motivated, self-starter; ability to work with a wide range of people and attitudes.

Additional Information: Candidates must have sufficient training and experience to demonstrate that, upon appointment, the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the tasks have been acquired. Applicants must have the ability to travel to other locations. It may be reduced to a half-time position and combined with the Assistant Naturalist Guide position currently being advertised (employee could be hired into both positions and work 40 hours a week, 20 hours in each position).
