Job Description: Fisheries Technician - LTE

Fisheries Technician (LTE) with our Woodruff area fisheries team working out of our Park Falls office. Technician will work with other team members to complete various fisheries surveys of lakes, rivers, and streams. Record and process data, maintain equipment, and provide assistance to other work units as needed.

60% Technician will assist fisheries supervisor, biologists and technicians with spring, summer and fall lake and river, stream surveys in northern Wisconsin. Individual will be required to participate daily in fishery surveys using various assessment materials including fyke nets, electrofishing gear and seines. The person will maintain and operate all WDNR equipment, boats and vehicles in a safe manner according to applicable WDNR and state manual codes. The person will be required to accurately record data in the field on appropriate field forms following established WDNR protocols. This employee will also assist with various species specific surveys for walleye, muskellunge, bass, panfish, and trout, as needed.

30% Technician will be required to accurately and efficiently process data collected on paper and scale envelopes, with proper training, enter survey data into WDNR data base and as required and according to WDNR standards. Employee will also be responsible for collected and preparing scales, spines, and otoliths for age interpretation.

10% Technician shall perform other tasks necessary to meet project and planning needs and/ or other duties assigned including operating Department vehicles, boats and equipment necessary to meet project needs and other duties assigned including routine equipment and supplies as well as upkeep of work area, Department properties and garage facilities.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Willing to work in inclement weather.
- Valid Wisconsin drivers license.
- Knowledge of Wisconsin fish species and their management

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous volunteer or work experience in fisheries
- Fisheries related degree or coursework

This position will require working some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
