Job Description: Law Enforcement Policy Assistant

This is a research and writing intensive position responsible for supporting the law enforcement policy officer with statewide regulatory policy and Administrative Code (rule) development associated with the conservation law enforcement program. The position will be responsible for engaging in legal research, analysis, and drafting related to administrative code and law enforcement policies. The position will also provide review, editing, audit, and analysis services for a variety of internal and external regulatory documents, communication materials, and other data impacting conservation law enforcement. Conservation law enforcement includes the prevention, detection and investigation of violations related to natural resources (e.g. hunting, fishing), recreational vehicles (e.g. boats, ATVs, OHMs, snowmobiles), endangered resources, environmental protection, recreational properties, and other activities regulated by the Department.

This is an administrative, non-sworn position within the Bureau of Law Enforcement.

Knowledge Required:

A minimally-qualified candidate must have all of the following to be considered:
1. Knowledge and familiarity with administrative rule promulgation process
2. Knowledge and ability to independently and effectively complete legal research, including analysis of legislative history, case law, and rule development
3. Exceptional writing skills reflecting a high attention to detail
4. Highly skilled in the advanced and efficient use of office software programs (Word, Excel, etc.)

In addition to the required qualifications, a preferred-candidate will have one or more of the following:
1. Prior experience drafting administrative rules and associated documents
2. Knowledge of laws specifically impacting the conservation law enforcement program (fish & game, recreational vehicle, etc.)
3. Significant experience with legal research and drafting, such as prior work experience as a paralegal or legal assistant
