Job Description: Fisheries Biologist - LTE

This position Independently or under general supervision, conduct angler creel survey, including data collection and analysis. Document, analyze, and interpret fisheries data. Write reports and other documents. Interview anglers. Measure, weigh, and identify fish.

75% Perform statistical analyses to summarize recreational fisheries data. Process, compile, and input data to electronic databases as necessary. Ensure data quality and completeness. Write reports and other documents.

20% Interview anglers and measure, weigh, and identify fish. Operate motor vehicles.

5% Maintain all equipment as necessary to perform duties.

Knowledge Required:

Required Qualifications:
- Must have good analytical, data processing and management, and word processing skills.
- Must have good written and oral communication skills.
- Must be able to accurately identify common Lake Superior and tributary fish to species name.
- Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
- Must be able to approach anglers where they commonly fish - this includes steep river banks and uneven terrain.
- Must be willing to work in inclement weather.
- Must be willing to work early morning and late evening hours according to an irregular assigned schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Volunteer or work experience in fisheries research and management
- College coursework in fisheries research and management, particularly in biometrics, fish survey design, and data processing/management and college coursework in and/or work experience with public outreach.
