Job Description: Parks and Recreation Specialist - LTE

These positions will work for the South East District Recreation Operations staff for the Bureau of Parks and Recreation. Parks and Recreation Specialists are often responsible for a combination of outdoor maintenance/grounds keeping work in addition to providing customer service for property visitors/campers at the entrance station. Parks and Recreation Specialists often operate machinery such as UTV's, ATV's, chainsaws, hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors and other motorized vehicles. One position will be splitting time between normal duties and Boat Access maintenance/Security.

30% Direct and perform the maintenance of grounds and facilities to ensure they conform to established standards to include mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches, painting, maintaining restrooms and campsites, remove trees and brush, repair and maintain trail surfaces, operate vehicles and light equipment and perform repairs and maintenance to equipment and buildings.

30% Direct other team members and assist in the collection of fees and dissemination of information. Work at entrance stations, campgrounds or other visitor contact stations. Use electronic cash registers, electronic credit card verification equipment and computerized reservation and reporting systems. Register campers; sell admission stickers to public. Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the specific park area, as well as explain the area's recreational opportunities, interpretive services, concessions and campground availability.

20% Explain State Park rules, regulations and fees to visitors and help with special events. Manage the Park and its facilities to protect public health and safety.

15% Manage the administration of admission sticker sales and other fee charges to efficiently maximize revenues. Assign, audit and process sticker accounts to ensure control of such accounts as well as prompt remittances.

5% Assist the Park Manager and/or Property Superintendent with monitoring the work and performance of other team members or volunteers and any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Required:

Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual.
- Ability to work a modified schedule; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and public.
- Ability to work in diverse weather conditions for long periods of time.
- Have an interest or knowledge in Wisconsin's Natural Resources.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Chain Saw, Power Tool, and Heavy Equipment experience.
- Customer service and experience ability to relay Dept. rules and regulations.
- Knowledge, skills and experience of general operations of equipment and maintenance.
- Prior experience in towing and attaching trailers.
- Ability to problem solve quickly.
