Wetland Compensatory Mitigation:
Conservation Easement Package

Sites approved as compensation areas must be protected in perpetuity. A draft of a conservation easement must be submitted along with the compensation site plan.

Please refer to the suggested easement language (PDF, 36KB) for help drafting the conservation easement.

Three other documents should accompany the conservation easement:
  • A plat map with the location of the compensation site clearly marked.
  • A county map (exit DNR) with the general location of the compensation site clearly marked.
  • A copy of the deed showing that the applicant is the title holder to the land the easement will cover.

  • Once the compensation site plan is approved, a finalized, signed conservation easement must be sent to the DNR. It will not be recorded unless water quality certification is granted.
