Sand River Estuary, By EJ Epstein

The coastal wetland evaluation and analysis for this project was conducted by the Wisconsin Natural Heritage Inventory (NHI) Program, which is part of an international network of NHI programs. These programs focus on rare species, natural communities, and other rare elements of nature, on which data are collected and tracked in a computer system known as the Biological Conservation Data (BCD) System. For this study, element occurence data from the BCD for rare plants, animals and natural communities supplemented data gathered on coastal wetland sites from existing reports. Descriptions for both Lake Michigan and Lake Superior primary sites contain a table of rare elements found to occur on those sites.
