Construction activities can include any work using machinery to conduct earth moving, building, shoreline restorations, etc in and around waterways. It is important to take the necessary precautions to ensure that the construction activities do not cause harmful environmental effects.

One of the most common problems that occur when doing construction in and around waterways is not properly minimizing the effects of erosion and sediment discharge. Sediment is one of the most significant contaminant of Wisconsin's streams, lakes and coastal waters and the cumulative effects of sediment discharge by many individual construction sites can have major detrimental effects on the States waterways, degrading their ecology and reducing recreational and economic value.
