About the Basin

The Grant-Platte/Sugar-Pecatonica Basins are located in the southwest corner of the state and are divided into the Grant and Platte River Basins, which flow directly into the Mississippi, and the Sugar-Pecatonica Basin, which join in Illinois and flow into the Rock River. With 137,000 people and 485,000 cattle and calves, the area's landscape and economy are dominated by agriculture. Lafayette County boasts that it does not have a single stoplight! To receive more information about this area, contact the Water Basin Team Leader, Bob Hansis, who is located in the WDNR South Central Region's Dodgeville Office.
