Deer trustee report implementation

The final report and recommendations [PDF] by Wisconsin's white-tailed deer trustee and review committee (Drs. Kroll, Guynn and Alt [exit DNR]) was presented to the Department of Administration and subsequently to the Department of Natural Resources. In the Deer Trustee Report (DTR), there are 62 specific recommendations identified which lay a path for modifying the future of deer management in Wisconsin.

As a starting point in the process of taking the final recommendations of the report and transition them into action on the ground, the DNR is currently in a public involvement process that is driven by four action teams made up of the public that are oriented around specific recommendations of the report. The 62 recommendations have been divided and categorized to each area specific action team.

  1. Herd Health/Chronic Wasting Disease
  2. Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP)
  3. Regulations & Seasons Structure
  4. Science & Research

Review the progress of each action team's proposals on the deer trustee recommendations.

Everyone is invited to attend the DTR meetings and give their input on the recommendation implementations. The DTR action team meetings run from 10:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. and will be held at the UW-Stevens Point Dreyfus University Center [exit DNR].

Survey

Thank you for participating in the Deer Trustee Report survey [PDF]. We appreciate the time you took to give your thoughts on Wisconsin's white-tail deer population. The four action teams, regulations and season structure, science and research, Deer Management Assistance Program and herd health and chronic wasting disease, are evaluating the survey results. Currently, they are in the planning and proposal stage [PDF] of the recommendation process. If you have any questions, submit your comments or feel free to contact any of the action team liaisons. Again, thank you.
