Frequently Asked Questions

November 23, 2011

Here are answers to some of the recent most frequently asked law enforcement questions taken this week by the DNR Call Center.
The Call Center is staffed daily, 7 a.m. - 10 p.m., and offers bilingual service in Spanish and Hmong. The number is 1-888-936-7463.

Question 1: What is my deadline to have my deer registered?

Answer: (You can reference page 14 in the deer regulations.) Deer killed by firearm in any deer management unit (DMU), besides a CWD unit, must be registered by no later than 5 p.m. on the day after the season closes. In the CWD zone, any deer killed by firearm or bow must be registered no later than 5 p.m. the day after the kill. Any deer killed by bow or crossbow outside the CWD zone must be registered no later than 5 p.m. on the third day after the deer was killed or by 5 p.m. on the day after the season close - whichever comes first.

Question 2: I have a friend in my hunting party who is a felon who is prevented by law from possessing a firearm. He has an archery hunting license, and since archery hunting for deer is legal during the 9-day gun deer season now, can my friend shoot a deer with his bow and have one of us tag it?

Answer: No, there is no group hunting activities allowed for archery hunters. Only gun hunters can group hunt and tag a deer shot by someone else in the hunting party who is hunting with a firearm.
