Whitefish Dunes State Park Reservable shelter

Whitefish Dunes State Park's picnic area includes a reservable shelter building. This area is near the parking lot overlooking the shore of Lake Michigan.

Reservations may be made up to 11 months in advance. For all reservations, use the Facility Rental Reservation Form (please note this application form does not guarantee your reservation - the property office will notify you when your reservation has been confirmed). Reservations may be made in person, by mail, e-mail or via telephone. If calling in a reservation, be ready to provide the information requested on the form. Vehicle admission stickers are required on all vehicles. For more information, please contact the property office.

The shelter at Whitefish Dunes has an interior finished with locally milled eastern white cedar siding. Two sliding glass doors on the Lake Michigan side of the building allow a view of the water and towering cedars. Two casement windows on the north side of the building allow cooling cross ventilation and a view of the trees and trail bordering the picnic area.

A large fieldstone fireplace is the focal point of the enclosed portion of the shelter. The shelter is used for year-round naturalist programs and as a warming shelter during the ski season and can be rented to groups. The shelter cannot be reserved during ski season.
