Roche-A-Cri State Park Current conditions

Conditions as of Tuesday, April 7, 2014:

The main gate and campground are closed for the season  as there is ice and snow covering the road. Parking is in the winter lot on Czech Ave and park stickers are required.  Please use the self-registration in the winter/prairie lot. Cypress Ave and 13th Dr also border the park and stickers are required if parking on the park side of the road.  Park stickers are not required on Highway 13, parking is not allowed in front of the park gate.  

Trails

The stairway to the top of the mound is not maintained for winter use.

Nature

Bald eagles can be seen flying around the open water of the Wisconsin River at the Hwy 21 bridge

Events

  • Work*Play*Earth Day. Volunteers are needed May 3 to participate in a state-wide event celebrating Earth Day. Volunteers should meet at the park office at 9 a.m. to receive garbage bags for litter pickup and assignments for work.  The Friends of Roche-A-Cri State Park will be providing a noontime lunch. The lunch is free, however donations are graciously accepted. Please pre-register by calling the winter office (Buckhorn) 608-565-2789.  Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves and water bottles.  A Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission sticker is not required for registered volunteers.  9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Don't move firewood!Due to the potential of carrying harmful tree pests and diseases, Wisconsin has restrictions for moving firewood.

All campground is closed through April 30, 2014.
