Great River State Trail Current conditions

Conditions as of Friday, July 21, 2017:

Storm damage and closures: Strong storms passed through the area the evening of July 19. Sections of the Great River State Trail are closed because of flooding.  This includes the trail that passes through the Trempealeau National Fish and Wildlife Refuge.  Additional rain is predicted so the open trail sections will be soft.

Sand Removal Notice: Due to recent heavy rains, a large amount of sand has settled on the trail surface in multiple areas between Onalaska and County Highway Z. From May 22 to approximately mid-June there will be heavy equipment on the trail to remove the sand, add gravel screenings as needed, and re-grade the trail. Please ride carefully through this area and watch for vehicles and equipment. Additional parking and access to the trail is available in the community of Midway.

More information

A state trail pass is required for bicyclists 16 years and older. Annual passes can be purchased from designated vendors along the trail and at Perrot State Park. Buy your pass before using the trail.

Please report any damage or problems on the trail to Perrot State Park, 608-534-6409.
