Governor Thompson State Park Current conditions

We have finished grooming the ski trails for the season. Trails are now open to everyone. Warmer temperatures are on the way and trails may become muddy, so remember to bring your boots!

Lakes and boat landings

The park has two inland lakes, Woods and Huber, and several miles of frontage on Caldron Falls Flowage. The South Bay Landing (#13) on Caldron Falls has two concrete launches, a boarding dock, fishing pier, picnic area and vault toilet. All facilities at South Bay are accessible.

Park staff do not monitor ice conditions. Please remember the ice is always changing and conditions can change from day to day. No ice is safe.

The Family Campground is closed for the season. The campground will open on April 27, 2018. Reserve your campsite online.

Don't move firewood!

Don't move firewood!Due to the potential of carrying harmful tree pests and diseases, Wisconsin has restrictions for moving firewood.

The campground has 100 sites that are all sized for a tent, camper or RV. Sixteen sites have electricity. There are vault toilets and water fountains throughout the campground and a centrally located shower/flush toilet building. The sanitary dump and fill station is located on the road into the campground.

The boat access campsites on Caldron Falls Flowage are open year-round. The sites are accessible in the winter by hiking or snowmobile over the ice. Each site has a place to tie up your boat, canoe/kayak rack, tent pad, fire ring, picnic table, bench, primitive latrine and a bear-proof box to store your food.

The Woods Lake day-use area is open and has picnic tables and benches available to enjoy a peaceful lunch or to simply enjoy the seasonal changes around the lake. The picnic area has a 150-foot sand beach, a sunning area and a vault toilet with changing rooms. The Woods Lake enclosed shelter is open to use as a warming shelter throughout winter.
